No more folders for me

I've had folders all my life and a couple of skinning knives. Since joining the forum I've been trying to convince myself I need a fixed blade and to find the right one. I've come close a time or two but nothing I HAVE TO HAVE yet.

Sent via telegraph with the same fingers I use to sip whiskey.

Nope, but I'm getting at this moment in a folder collector's life where I spend more time investigating about my next purchase, and ending up not buying most of the time.
It's simpler with fixed blades: if I like the shape and the steel, I just buy it.

I can understand your problem and would like to help. Please send me all your unused folders and I would be happy to help clear your clutter. I'll even pay the postage.

My Newt Livesay Lil Pecker is the blade I reach for over my folder. Picked up a Joe Watson CT that I'm enjoying, but the Livesay is the do-it-all for me.

I've taken to carrying a fixed blade and slipjoint like many others it seems. Always love those pics, brancron :)

When I grow up, I wanna be just like brancon ;), well maybe not just like him, but like his collection.

As to one or the other, I tend to forget that I don't really carry fixed blades all the time, but, I buy them after a while and then realize oh yeah, I don't carry fixed blades and then have to try and sell them and not lose too much money on the whole thing, but, I usually just mark it down as a rental fee :)

My most recent buy, what a cutter it be too, is a CRKT Achi designed by Lucas Burnley, rascal is ground down thin and takes a great edge.

While it has fake ray skin, that doesn't bother me too much as the main grip is the nicely cord wrapped handle and the cord appears to be soaked in epoxy so it is very hard and very grippy.

Awesome pics Gary. My most recent pick up has been the JX6 and I'm in love with it. The palm swell feels like it was made just for my hand, and everyone I talk to seems to agree

I tend to focus more on fixed blades. Lots of varied designs and materials at a more "affordable" price.
I generally tend to be ambivalent about folders in the sub $600 range. The ones above that tend to be exceptionally hard to get. Ones below typically don't interest me (enough of G10/Ti framelocks)

I carry a folder or two daily. Sometimes carry a fixed blade for giggles... no other reason other than variety for a second knife.

Nope. I only use fixed for camping/hiking. I can't carry one around town, so the state of MI has made my choice of knife carry for me.

I rarely carry a folder anymore, since I tried out a carter perfect model.

I would get too much attention carrying a fixed blade. I am in central FL so legally I can carry about any type of cutlerly.

I'm not a hunter, biker I fish occasionally. I am a city kid from Miami. If people see a fixed blade on me in a grocery store they'd probably stay away from me.

I am going to get my first fixed blade soon but It's to keep at home and in my car.

Anyone else feel this way?
Good Lord, a resounding NO!

One can never be too thin.....or have too many Spyderco folders.

No.Such.Thing.

That being said, Ive gravitated towards smaller fixed blade knives for some utility work (along side folders).

Im still very much into both folders, fixed blade knives of small, medium and large sizes....and 1796 Light Cavalry Swords, bayos, other assorted swords, halberds, hog spears...and...and...and...

I prefer fixed blades over folders for use in all circumstances. Discretion is the only thing I choose folders for.

If I had to be stuck with one blade for forever, it would probably be a fixed blade... Probably my fällkniven.

I've always focused more on fixed blades my whole life. Very rare that I spend more than 100 on a folder also.
Just something about a solid knife with no moving parts that appeals to me.

I like both. What I would really like to see is more customs and manufacturers come out with fixed blades in the profile of a traditional folder, accompanied with a pocket sheath. There are way too few of these around, IMO.
