No more folders for me

I do love fixed blades, but the most useful blade for me is a folder because it's easier for work. However I carry a strider SMF which locks up like a fixed blade and is extremely hefty. If you have the financials to pick one up I'd suggest you try it.

Personally, I am still convinced that the reason that we have knives that are intentionally broken in the middle is because Caesar didn't want the peasants and slaves to have effective weapons. ;)

wellllll mostly not.
No I don't go for fixed blades though last year I gave it a whirl.
Why ?
The knives I like have sheaths that dull the blades. And that drives me insane. I'm happier when I don't have to deal with that.

The sheaths are a dirt catcher that needs to be rinsed out. I cut up trash and stuff with goop on it and then I need to use it for food prep later. A folder is easier to use for all this because the goopy blade (wiped off while I am working but still) does not contaminate the sides of the folder handle and once washed does not contact the sides of the handle so it is just a cleaner knife to use all around.

I change clothes a lot because I commute to work by bike and at home switch from lounging cloths to working in my shop clothes so a belt knife sheath is just too futzy and a pocket knife is easier to deal with.

I just bought this fixed blade and think it is pretty cool but the sheath dulls the edge and I am not a neck knife type for the most part so this will be a fun toy but not a working knife.

I carried a Case Trapper today for my work knife and for weeks before that my Gayle Bradley. They really "do it" for me.
I will strap on a fixed now and again but not a person to casually carry a fixed though I like the idea in theory.

If I may ask, which RJ Martin is that?

Not an RJ Martin but a Kershaw: I praised it to the sky for its design/ergonomics/assisted opening, but the chinese steel rolls at thin angles...

I did own a real RJ Martin: A 10.5" Raven in S30v, and that also rolled at the slightest chop on maple, even after years of trying to sharpen out of a "bad" steel layer by hand: I blame the S30v steel not the maker.

I see you post that often and I gotta ask what the edge was set at? I really don't know why s30v would even be used on such a large knife it really just baffles me.
