No more folders for me

I have a few of each. Whatever you do don't get into Busse knives at Busse.com . The next fixed blade I want to get is a Blackjack model 7 with stacked leather handles.

Never liked the look of busse (thank god ) and I love stacked leather, my fallkniven nl4 is so comfy and gorgeous I really appreciate the leather handle

the main grip is the nicely cord wrapped handle and the cord appears to be soaked in epoxy so it is very hard and very grippy.

That's how they did their old First Strike models. It's about the grippiest grip I've ever felt, for sure.

As grippy as a grippy thing from planet Grippy and excellent choice for that kind of knife.

Murder on the hand if on a chopper for extended work though.

I'm a fan of fixed blades too:

But no, I don't feel the same way as you do about folders:

Impressive collection sir!

I prefer fixed and carry my guardian 3 at least 90% of the time. I do carry a spyderco manix 2 on occassion, but it is rare compared to fixed.

Fixed for me, especially fighters which I find the most interesting and exciting class of knife. Mind you I do appreciate a good slip joint.

I own 3 folders that I consider serious knives (unfortunately, the RJ Martin designed Kershaw I liked so much turned out to have so-so edge-holding), one fully serrated, and two that needed a huge REK re-grind just to be of any use at all... (SOG Fatcat and the big Al Mar SERE)

Except for cutting the occasional cardboard box, I can't say I ever found much use for any of them, but they carry easy and the rare times I did use them I was glad to have them. Rarely happens, especially outside of boxes... Even for boxes, I can't imagine how terrible the plain edge ones would be with just the factory edge...

If I may ask, which RJ Martin is that?

I like folders better than fixed blades because they are so much more convenient to carry. If I could not carry a folder, I would not have a knife on me most of the time.

If you are not going to use folders anymore, what are you going to do?

I never said I was done using them, I am done buying them. The title said "no MORE folders." That I can agree with. I don't need any more.

Right, and that's what I understood that you meant. I'm quite sorry if my humor was poorly timed or even in bad taste.
I had the thought too, several times to cut down on knives I was at the point of insisting on 3 folders and 3 fixed blades as a permanent standard.
Didn't pan out.
If you can limit your blades and keep that limit, more power to you.. today I'm not doing too bad at about 12 folders 5 fixed with a couple machetes and 'hawks and one Kukhri. Again, sorry.

I like the idea of a fixed blade and own a few. But I really only reach for it over a folder if I know I will be in a specific place for a while doing stuff that might require it (hiking, camping, yard work etc.) It's just not very practical for me. Also a fixed blade on my hip I've noticed has a tendency to cause people to be more standoffish with me. I don't want to be the scary guy, even if it is just their misconception. And there is a lot of places a frequent that would frown upon it or even disallow it. I can't even ride the bus if I am wearing one.

I only have a couple fixed blades.
Living in California, I like to carry my knives concealed and with a fixed blade this is not lawful.
Even when I go hiking I like a folder on my belt usually in a leather belt holster.
I guess to me folders are more practical for the time being.

My favorite F.B. so far is the 311 in a simple kydex sheath and a slip joint. Might be a small two bladed s.j. or a large one depends on how I feel basically. When I am fishing at our place on Lake Ontario or on my bagger it is usually a larger f.b. in a bowie style. But frankly I am kind of done with modern folders in general. I'm retired full time now so I carry what I want most of the time which like I said is usually the 311. Ergo's are hard to beat. The Bradford Guardian I have in 4" is superb too. keepem sharp

I think the above comment was aimed at me.

If you are only done buying, I can understand. I have folders that I don't ever use anymore and can't see a "practical" reason to purchase any more, myself. I am not quite to the point that you are, yet. Probably close though.

My lifestyle is changing so my knife needs are changing, too. Folders that I used to carry, now set unused. Smaller, lighter folders seem to be what I am leaning towards. Just a few more to upgrade my collection and then I am done. Or, so I claim.:D

Without going into much detail, there was a period where I had the funds, the time, and motivation to get into collecting knives as a hobby. Those circumstances have changed. I no longer have a desire to keep buying more stuff that I don't need, in any area of my life. I have a lot of pocket knives accumulated during my collecting stage. I will never run out.
