Tapatalk has been doing some weird things with quotations.

I can't get tapatalk to work half the time, I ended up deleteing the app a few times and reloading it, works a few times in the beginning but boggs out over and over... Now I just added my page to a bookmark thumb screen thingy...

Morning folks! Hope everyone had a good weekend. Now back to the daily grind. I'm enjoying my second cup of coffee and preparing for another day in front of the keyboard.

What's on the agenda for everyone else.

BTW, with all this talk about Emberlit stoves, I stumbled on this rig. Anyone used it? Thought?

Perfect day for the furnace to go on the fritz!! The flame is igniting, but the flame sensor must be shot, because after 5 seconds the flame goes out again and the code that is coming up says ignition failure. Hopefully my normal repair place can get a guy here right away this morning.

Morning Gus. I think the Emberlit has a couple of advantages. It folds flat making it easier to store and the main one, it's easier to feed. A lot of other stoves (like the four dog) you are limited to a certain size fuel pieces. If you can cram it through the door on the Emberlit, it can be three feet long and you're still golden. You don't have to pick up the pot or skillet to feed it either. And it's cheaper while also made in the USA.

Hmm. Good points trade.

Pffffft!! It was -11 without the windchill on my way to work tonight and its -19 now, -42 with the wind chill. I do suppose that it does suck when its not something you are used to. I get pissy when we hit the mid to upper 80's here in the summer. My lungs do kinda hurt right now though. I got to huffin and puffin a few times tonight in this cold which isn't a good idea. My brakes were frozen on my trailer when I hooked onto it, so I was crawling around underneath it pounding on the brake drums with a hammer trying to get them to release. After that I got stuck and couldn't pull up out of my dock, so I had to get someone to pull me out. The roads turned out to be pretty good except for a few spots with some pretty impressive drifts that woulda stopped my in my tracks, but there was barely enough shoulder left to maneuver around them. A semi can go through a lot once its moving, but 4' snow drifts would have stopped me dead in my tracks!!!
I didn't mean it was super cold, just the difference between actual temp, and wind chill because of the high winds.

Wow. Stay safe, AC! We are getting your weather for the next few days. My grandpa has been reminiscing about North Dakota with the winter we've had. I think he's glad to be in the milder weather here, though.

Exactly this.

I don't blame him at all! I did get it to work again, so I cranked the heat way up. The furnace place told me to clear the ice off the chimney first and if that doesn't help the would send someone over. I just got inside from climbing around on the roof, so I'll see how it goes. I'm pretty sure I'll be calling them back.

So, for you backpack stove guys...I am doing some snowshoe hikes soon and wondered if you'd recommend a canister stove or found fuel type stove? I like the idea of having my fuel in a canister and ready to rock, but if don't know how the stoves light in the cold.

I'm not sure how cold it will be on your hikes or if the butane/propane fuel mix is the same as propane, but propane bottles do tend to freeze up if its cold enough.

Haha, damn, Emberlit and Snow Peak should give me commission for all the stoves and pots people have purchased since my hiking thread. :D

Get it set up quick, I am about to order one for myself too, lol

So where do we sign up for the Becker East Spring Gathering??

But seriously, I would love to go to one of those Gatherings, but they are always so far away. Anyone from Texas going, let me know and we can drive together.

I passed through the area a week late this year.. tried to time a training class in Ohio with it.. Still waiting for a training schedule for this year, but I am running out of products that I am not trained on yet.

I dont think it would be as good as the emberlit, but i like the looks and design of the "180 Stove"

Really i just like the way the top is a grill. I dont really ever boil water or make stews or soups or anything. When im in the woods cooking i make steaks, burgers, hot dogs... stuff like that. Or if im fishing and had any luck i may grill up the fish... I normally just cook over the campfire but you guys are making me want a wood burning camp stove. But if i get one it has to be one with a sturdy grill top.

One thing worth remembering is that canister stoves become less efficient in colder conditions or as fuel is consumed. In both cases pressure drops and boil times go up. It's one of the reasons that high-altitude climbers often use a heat conductor for the canister even though manufacturers do not recommend it (for obvious reasons).

Like I've said before, I wouldn't wanna grill over my Emberlit, just because of the mess involved. Much easier to brush a few ashes off, as opposed to cleaning grease off.

Sumbitch that wind is cold this morning. I heard an empty trashcan hit the house during the night and found it a quarter mile out in the field.

Ahh, that makes sense! I were cunfuzed because if it was just someone from HI on vacation, surely it would be cheaper to fly over and rent a car than to ship your vehicle and drive...

See, I learned something today. Now I can go back to bed, right? :p

I think it cost us about $800 to pay for shipping a second car (acually pickup truck) to Hawaii from Texas, but that was back in 2002. It was seemed like a cheaper option than selling or storing the truck and buying a second car over there. Certainly not worth it for a vaction though, not to mention it takes weeks (3-4 minimum, I think) for the vehicle to be shipped as cargo.

Also, from what I learned during my three years stationed there, most Hawaiians go to Vegas for vacation. Sure, there will be some that trickle out to other states, but Las Vegas is unofficially known as the "9th Island".

As far as going back to bed, you'll have to talk to your boss...but I've heard he's pretty demanding... ;)

The wind was brutal here last night. Gusts up to 55mph. When it first hit, I was wondering if there wasn't a tornado, it was so bad. My son, who lives in a town about 5 miles from me, called and asked me if there were tornadoes in the area. ABout 20 sustained right now.
