No snarky title

Thanks for the recommendation! My mate just scored a copy of The Hunter's Encyclopedia, dated 1957. He paid 5 bucks for it.

Oooh. That sounds like a good'un. I managed to pick up a copy of Boddington's Safari Rifles (1990) for a dollar from a used bookstore here. Not that I'm ever going to Africa, but it's all very interesting reading. Roosevelt's African Game Trails is a classic, as well.

I snark through the desert on a moose with no name.

Sorry, I just heard the song and that's what I got out of it.:D

Good excuse ;) the next time we head up north a bit to my brothers place I'll be sure to take the wee man and some BK goodness

There ya go! Wait... "head up north"? You're in Ontario... isn't that already pretty much the end of the world?

I kid, I kid... when I lived in WI I used to joke, "Welcome to Wisconsin... it's not the End of the World, but you can see it from here."

My gold membership runs out soon, I think i may go platinum next time so i can get 300 private messages instead of 100. They run out too fast.

I'm all for supporting the forum, but if that's your only reason... don't bother. 300 pm's fills up pretty dang fast too, and just leaves more to clean out every week :D

I used a 20 ga external hammer with m92 LA and SA in .44 when I did CASS -- was a blast.
saw a lot of folks using .45LC as well.

20-ga makes plenty sense, and I've heard that about .45LC being popular. CASS looks like a hoot, and I look stunning in a hat and boots... but Ang says I already have enough expensive habits :o

I then walked over to the gun counter to take a look at the goods.

Well, you could drive a nail with a gun if you really had to... :p

Trust me when I tell you, you do NOT want to snark on a Moose with no name.

I don't know about that, but the Moosez with a name is a downright crafty and dangerous little rascal...

John Wayne really was the pinnacle of misogyny. Even his little quips are drenched with superiority. But he was one hell of an actor!

Oh heck yeah, a major Hollywood star (or writer or director) would never get away with that stuff today.

You're kidding, right? Please tell me you're kidding. I enjoy several JW movies but let's face it, he couldn't act his way out of a wet paper bag.

amusing: new S&W 629 5 shot snubby .44 Magnum :>

I was very interested when I heard this. I'm holding out for a snubby though.

I also was very excited to hear the 66 was coming back. Hopping for a 3" roundbutt version of that soon.

Exactly, and there's nothing necessarily wrong with that... but it doesn't make him a great thespian. He just played the same two roles 1,500 times ;)

Anyone else remember him playing Genghis Khan?

That said, I really think he did a great job in True Grit.

Don't forget "The Quiet Man", he drug that broad through the Emerald Isle. That's romance!

No, it's time to go pig hunting.... Thought I'd check in while I wait in the truck for my hunting partner. Everyone have a snarky time tonight. With some luck, the BK2 will taste pig blood tonight.

MMMmmm pig blood. Pictures are a must! send me some bacon!

Good luck, Greg!

Get some! And pics!

If it does, I expect pictures and if there are no pictures, I expect bacon.

LOTS of bacon.

Sadly, no luck with the pigs last night. We heard one a mile or so away squealing loudly right after a group of coyotes started in with their noise, and and they were close to each other. Circled around, but never could find it/them. Did see a lot of deer and racoons, along with six black and white kitty cats. The all had the same black with white stripe pattern.... Kinda odd... Tried to get close enough to pet the cats and take a photo, but they kept running away (haha). Actually, we gave them a wide berth, and discussed the merits of bringing along a .22 mag next time to supplement the hog guns.

Got some store bought bacon on the stove and coffee in my cup, so I can recover from the lack of sleep. Got to get ready for church now, so I'll catch up on the snark later.

It's cool that you're swimming - I finally got clearance to get back in the pool from the doc....Thursday was the first time I've "worked out" in a couple months. I am SO out of shape. I regularly swam 3000 - 4000 meters in an hour.....Thursday I managed 700. Long way to go.

Good thing that you're allowed to exercise a bit. Swimming is great for that too, not a lot of injuries among swimmers. 3K/hour is a good distance and an excellent workout. However, that's only possible if you have the pool for yourself, but rather difficult if there are a lot of others in the water as well. 4K/hour is quite the distance though. I don't know if my dexterity would allow it to be honest. When I swam competitively, I always trained for short distances. 25, 50, maybe 100m. At 200m I never even made the stage. Same thing with running. Short, explosiveness. That's my thingy. Running for an hour... NOPE.JPG :D. I can do it, but I lose a lot of speed and pretty much have to drag myself further. A lotta respect for those long-distance guys. I'm not one of 'em.

Guess the snow went north of us, and hit Indiana, and Ohio. Claiming we'll get more tonight. Hope to go hiking today. That is all.

...

mmmmm. Kalua pig is my most favorite thing from Hawaii. I go the easy route and make it in the crockpot....usually with liquid smoke and a little pineapple juice. And salt. Plenty of salt.

I did it in a crock pot as well. Massaged in the liquid smoke and coarse sea salt...gonna have to try adding a bit of pineapple juice some time.

Aw man, boys. You guys are killing me. I just ate some delicious homemade shepherd's pie and now I want kalua pig! And it's always "kalua pig", never "kalua pork"... Here you can buy it premade from most places, but homemade is always better! Granite, did you ever eat laulau while you were here?

Good look with the pua'a, GSO. Get some hogs and get some pics!

I was never a huge fan of laulau. My kids went through a phase where they really loved spam musubi; now, not so much. I also like the various poke, and manapua was always good for a snack.

Heard lots of versions of this but not this version

One fine day in the middle of the night,
...
If you dont believe this story is true
ask the blind man, he saw it too.

Never heard either version before. Very creative!

Anybody ever read anything from Peter Capstick? I'm going back through some of his books. Good rollicking stuff, if a little bit sensationalistic.

I've read several of them and own a couple more. I still recall him describing the native method of getting cobra (spitting) venom out of the eyes. Apparently urine from the uninfected bladder is sterile and can be used like a saline rinse... I've heard it suggested that some (or a lot) of his adventures actually occurred on a bar stool...it really doesn't matter, they are good reads either way.

Man.................is it just me or does this Snark title keep changing, Like every 5 minutes? lol

It's a morphing snark...or a snark of many colors...

Never had laulau - too busy having kalua pig.
The pre-made kalua pig was what I was introduced to....but I've never found it NH (I know, hard to believe) so I've resorted to making cheap knockoffs. I never spend the time to slow roast it in the oven....and even though it's not the same outta the crockpot, it's still pretty good. And easy. Might hafta make some soon, now that I'm thinking about it. Damn you, Greg! Damn all of you and your luscious food photos, making me drool on my screen. I think the BK&T calorie count exceeds even the weight of my phat BK2.

My humblest of apologies... :D

A 5 is a must if your cooking for groups of people. With a 5 and a 15 your set. I use my 16 in the kitchen a lot as well, but nothing gets the job done like the 5.

Yes, you can't not have a 5. It slices through frozen bacon like a plasma cutter...

Some of it ended up here....

Thank god for my beast of a Craftsman snowblower! When the plow makes that nice 4 foot high drift at the end of my driveway I set that thing on ramming speed and just charge that drift! Sure beats yea old method of taking an hour+ to do it by hand!
