No weapons signs/zones. Obey or ignore?

Oh yea and MRIs too.

Basically if they're going to check me and confiscate I find an alternative, other than that, there's always at least one of not many more on me at any given moment. I have a Spyderco titanium mini police on a necklace that I wear all the time

Well that's a given.That'd be pretty painful. :D

Here in Texas any sign saying "No Guns" can be completely ignored. It has to be a specific sign posted in order to legally restrict carrying a gun. I've never seen a sign that I interpreted to mean "no knives".

Of course, there are specific places (post offices, court houses, etc) that do not allow weapons of any kind.

I carry my knife in the post office and they dont ever say anything about it.

Ill carry my pocket folder anywhere except court (been years anyways).

Besides, I havent stepped inside court in ages, they have websites for court too....

You really need to know your local laws. I know that here in California that it is ILLEGAL to carry knives of a certain size anywhere on public school property. And by ILLEGAL, I don't mean just a school policy, I mean you can be arrested and charged in criminal court. And in court, it won't matter one bit how YOU define your knife. If a knife is illegal due to it's size or design, it WILL be regarded as a weapon by the prosecutor.

When I go to my kids school I leave my fixed-blade locked in the car. I carry a legal folder in my pocket.

And if anyone thinks "Who's gonna know if I have a knife on school grounds?", well, is there any chance that you might pull it out to cut something, maybe out of habit? Is there any chance that it could be seen by others? Is it possible that it could fall out of your pocket, like maybe if you were pulling something else out of your pocket? We all know about how school personnel can overreact (zero tolerance, etc), so don't be surprised if a school employee calls the cops on you if they see you carrying, on school grounds, what THEY consider to be a "deadly weapon".

I openly carry a fixed-blade wherever it is legal to do so. I have never seen any "NO WEAPONS" signs at any business here in San Diego. And if I did, I would ignore them. Of course, due to the fact that the owners of private property, and there representatives, have the right to insist that a person leave their property for any reason, and call the cops and have that person charged with trespassing if they don't leave, I would leave if asked to do so and take my money elsewhere. But in all the years I have been carrying a fixed-blade, I have never been asked to leave or put my knife "away".

Maybe its a small-town thing but I've been in plenty of court houses and town halls which not ony don't check for weapons, but are completely open to ANYONE carrying knives. (Well except for prisoners of corse). The last time I was in a court house a few years back in Jackson county Ohio I was handed a large envelope full of some paperwork and when I started to rip it open the lady stopped me and said I needed to save the envelope and to just use my knife (which she didnt know I had, only assumed).

When I go to my kids elementary school, including last year's field day, I carry all my knives, clips totally visible.

I don't go places I can't carry.

I avoid most places that don't welcome my guns and knives. The only building I need to go to that has a strict policy against knives and guns is the national gun registry, I find it rather odd but must comply because they have metal detectors, scanners and the power to take away my guns.

When I'm traveling and head to places where knife laws are uncertain, I carry a SAK or Leatherman.

As a kid in highschool I can tell you with the utmost assurance that if I got caught with a knife on campus, I would at least 10 days suspension. Maybe 45 (the school jumps from 10 to 45 days, there's no in-between punishment) and it would be made a really huge deal and I would probably get a big fat ticket. Outside of school if I see a no weapons sign I just ignore it. 1. I don't see to many so it's not like I'm doing it everyday. 2. If you get caught you MIGHT get a ticket, but you'd probably just get escorted off the property. Even if someone did call the cops, they'd probably just scold you. 3. It depends on who catches you. The bank employee who knows its just a pocket knife or the crazy store clerk who watches to much tv.
Just my opinion, I'm not giving out legal advice.

I carry deep pocket traditional only when going to places with rules but no metal detectors, to include local sporting events, government buildings, and my last work place before I retired where they had signs saying,"No weapons allowed including guns!" I asked the security people and they said it definitely was no knives with no tolerance. They had no metal detector so it was deep pocket only.

No weapons? I ignore it every time and bring in my brain and body... without which any tool is useless to me.

I carry a traditional in places where I suspect I may be wanded or subject to a pat down, who's going to go nuts over a patina covered old pocket knife? ;)

Concerts, sporting events, schools, etc. What do you do? Leave the knife, or hide it on you? How important is it to you to have your trusty EDC?

I always carry. When I used to drink, I went to a club one night with a 9mm Cold Steel Vaquero Grande, and a Sebenza.

The sign outside said, "no weapons allowed." I thought yeah right. Once I got in I got the wand by security. After realizing I was carrying a pistol and two knives, he chuckled and said, " you're ready for anything, but you have to take those back to the vehicle." I went out to the truck and took off the pistol and Sebenza. Stashed the Vaquero in my boot directly under the foot. It hurt walking back in but I made it. When I got to the security guy the second time he didn't even wand me. I should have kept the pistol on me, but there was an officer standing right next to him. :)

Most signs have no enforceable law as basis, so I carry whatever I want unless there's of course detection equipment or even a random chance that I'd get the random scan/pat down at a concert/sporting event.

Something found that way and your treated like a criminal, right or wrong, and regardless of whether or not a law was actually violated.

My opinion on these sort of signs:

It depends completely on the area and what knife I am carrying. If I have a SAK or something under 3" I usually ignore it, but if I have something larger I will go drop it in my car. Same with the areas, if it is somewhere that it is illegal I will generally drop my knife, but if it is a rule I usually don't care.
