No weapons signs/zones. Obey or ignore?

Why the flagrant disregard for laws and requirements for no weapons? A KNIFE IS A WEAPON! Go to court over it, and your peers on the jury will think of it' one. Walk in anywhere that it is illegal to carry a weapon, and you will be busted. So when a business or shcool, public place like sports venue, etc, say no weapons, you know exactly what they mean.
There is this elitist attitude that most people here are somehow better than the laws or rules. You are the problem with knives in society, because you flaunt your disrespect for the laws and rules. Others notice, and assume everyone with a knife is like you.
Is it so hard to admit that there are places where a knife should not be carried? If the rule is no weapons, and you claim you don't use the knife as a weapon, why don't you just pull out your blade in fropnt of whomever enforces the rules or laws and start fondling your knife. Since it's not a weapon, you obviously won't need it for self defense, so just play with it.
These kind of posts infuriate me. My child's school has a no gun policy, but does not specify knives, so I DISCREETLY carry an ankle knife AS A WEAPON, btw, considering the things that can happen in a school. The difference is my belt knives, knives with clips, etc, stay in the car. I don't want to ever make a staff member uncomfortable. There's no point in that, and I sure the hell am not gonna use it as a 'tool' in a school around 30 kids. That's just irresponsible.
If a place says no weapons, the knives, all of them, stay in the car. It's flagrantly breaking a law, or the store or businesses right to not have them in their workplace. If I don't like it, I go somewhere else. Plain and simple. But having a knife on me has never been that important that I can't forgo it for a little bit.
Anyone who sneaks a knife into a place they're not allowed is doing so to use as a weapons if necessary, because, since it's forbidden, you know you can't just pull it out and start cutting away for fun. You'll be told to leave, or escorted to jail. So, it follows the 'no weapons' law or rule, and you all know it.
You're purposely being cocky, disrespectful, ignorant jerks. And bragging about it. It makes me sick, and demonstrates your immaturaty by doing so. If it were your house, and someone ignored whatever rules you ask guests to follow, you'd kick their arse out. But since it's someone else's place, srew the rules, right?

I went to a concert once and they had the metal detectors outside the door. I totally forgot i had a swiss army knife with me, and i didnt really know a lot about knife laws or anything. And we were far away from our car, so i left it outside where i didnt think anybody would find it, and got it when i left. The knife was a gift so i didnt want to lose it. Im sure they would have just taken it and given it back after the show. :o

It just hit me: you are the same folks who sneak weed and booze into concerts, smoke in no smoking areas, and smuggle vodka into high school in water bottles, just to show you can get away with it. It's just a total lack for respect and maturity. It all makes perfect sense.

Jimh0220, I see your point, but I started this thread as a discussion and opportunity to debate a topic, not as a place to sling insult or pass judgement. No one is going to take anything you say seriously when your calling them an idiot.

I don't think it's all that serious brother. People just want a little extra sense of security or to carry their favorite little pocket knife. Majority of people consider laws and rules as something designed to serve people...and break one or more on a somewhat regular basis if they don't feel anyone is harmed in the process.

I don't drive over posted speed limits but at the same time I don't feel that the vast majority who treat them as the minimum speed guide are outlaws.

If your county or state banned pocket knives tomorrow would you feel bad carrying one out of the house sometimes?

I'm not entirely sure I understand your logic here. You want to enforce a no knife rule in places like a school and yet admit you discreetly carry an ankle knife for specific use as a weapon? Please help me if I misunderstood what you said. Where I teach I use mine regularly at lunch to cut things, open the microwave food I brought, etc. That's about it. It's useful and I use it in an entirely appropriate way.

It's a good thing you carry you're ankle knife very discreetly when at a school. If I saw it I'd kick you out of mine just for being hypocritical in wanting others to follow a no knife rule when you yourself do not.

I always have a SAK on my keys, but the blade is maybe an inch or less, so I don't think that would be a problem since a lot of people think of boy scouts when they see a swiss army knife lol

a couple of years ago I went to the Pond to watch the Ducks and Wings play. I had my SAK Classic on my keychain, and they would not let me in w/it on my keychain. Pretty stupid, but whatever. They must do what they must do to avoid a lawsuit I guess.

Think what you want but you sound like a typical sheep like most of society these days. Those dumb signs and "rules" are made by other sheep because of idiots and criminals that have used them for something other than a tool in the past. You can't fix dumb and criminals are going to do whatever they want anyway so I look at those signs as more of a guideline than a requirement. I'm not willing to be inconvenienced by them or unarmed but with that being said I wouldn't walk around with it exposed or pull it out to use it for anything unless I absolutely had too. They can't guarantee your property will be safe in your car so I'm not abut to go back and put my $100+ knife or $600+ dollar gun back in the car every time some mall puts a dumb sign up. It will stay on me concealed and nobody will know the difference.

P.S. this isn't Whine and Cheese so chill out with the insults. Your whole post is about as hypocritical as they get anyway. Acting irrational and flinging insults isn't exactly what most adults would consider mature.

Extremely hypocritical, yes. Wanting others to obey these rules while carrying a knife as a weapon because of "what can happen in a school?" To be frank, that's ridiculous. I'm sure fumbling to get an ankle knife out while telegraphing the movement will be very useful when the attacker sees it and lays him out before the knife has cleared the sheath.

I'm not usually so frank, and I feel sort of bad about that. Just... hypocrisy. Ugh.

The school has a specific NO GUNS rule. Knives are not part of the city ordinance. I carry the knife hidden legally and NEVER display it. I follow the law to a T. Not hypocritical in the least. If it was no weapons, I wouldn't carry it.

I guess you live in a very restrictive area. Only Federal buildings in my area have no weapons period. No other buildings have that, and in fact most don't even have no guns signs.

Adain, I follow both the school rules and city laws completely. I would never bring a gun to a school, because it's illegal. I do not visibly carry a knife, because it might concern a staff member, but I carry a self defense knife legally concealed legally, and it will stay that way, unless, God forbid, it is needed for self defense of myself or another.
No hypocrisy.

A knife is a tool not a weapon.

Really? Walk into an airport checkpoint, courthouse, etc, and publicly display the TOOL you carry. See how the jury feels about it.
Do the same with a hex key. See how many folks give a damn.

Hex key- tool.
Knife - weapon.

Denial will not win your court case.

Yep. I do. Big cities in places like Washington are very restrictive in many cases.

Even in my area no one, including teachers, would get away with a knife on their belt, if that's what you mean. But a knife in the pocket, used for such tasks as I outlined above or others, is perfectly okay, and has nothing to do with just "fondling it" in front of other people. Perhaps you didn't mean to insult persons who carry them in such places for very legitimate reasons and if so I apologize, but it was difficult to tell from the general tone of your post.

I usually just have one everywhere, I even took it to see Bob Dylan when he played at my alma mater.

Maturity is following laws and rules. Calling someone who thinks doing so a 'sheeple' is idiocy. Are we clear?

When it applies to everyone without exception I might consider it but you know darn well the maintenance guy has a knife and we all know how stable maintenance guys are.
