can’t hop on the ZT bus
Purchased my first zt 452 first day approx 20 flips the knife got stuck. Blade and screws where loose. Sent in to ZT figured everyone has a bad day. Just received back after almost a month. Screws falling out AGAIN! Talked to a Dan. His only option send back do it all over. I asked can I please just exchange for a new same model. No we don’t do that. I can send you postage and you can send back. I said that being without a knife for 2 months that’s brand new never used is completely unexceptable . His answer was that’s all they would do.

I told Dan that I would warn others of this experience. I will sell the knife and move on to better more reliable brands . The materials sound great but the execution is clearly poor. I have a Koenig , Benchmades , spiderco, etc... never this poor service or chain of events . They failed twice with documentation to prove and did nothing besides give lame answers. This knife will not hold up to any of the above mentioned clearly Buyer beware .

One of the easiest knives to fix from what I here in the world but can’t exchange a lemon for a working model?

Got my first Koenig awesome knife worth the extra $$

I’m unfortunately off the ZT wagon as well. That being said, I’ve never had an issue with any of their products or their customer service. In fact their customer service explained to me that if I ever had an issue with an old ZT0550 that couldn’t be solved.... I would receive a full MSRP warranty credit to use through them. That’s crazy awesome service. I’m not calling you a liar, and I don’t know what truly happened here, but something doesn’t add up with the story as it is now.

On a more positive note, I still want to try my first Koenig. I had a chance to meet Bill and handle his knives at Blade and I think I have to get one at some point!

Original post scared me A LOT. I am about to receive my first ZT (bought on the exchange, used) and living in Spain ANY it is totally out of the question to send anything to the manufacturer for fixing or replacing.

The rest of the thread actually makes me feel much more comfortable with my purchase.

BTW, why does everyone take for granted that the OP is a woman? Just because of the user name or am I missing something?

You'll be fine. I've had the pivot screw loosen on a couple knives, little lock tight and it's good to go.
It's a shame that happen to a new knife, in some instances, the first thing I'll do is take the knife apart, give it a good clean and lube, and put my own edge on the blade. As I stick around BF I get a lot more comfortable with issues or problems that may or may not come up with knives. Lots of knowledge and info here.

Don't panic. ZT knives are fine knives and built just as good as most other high end brands. Their customer service will usually bend over backwards to make things right so I'm not sure if I buy the OP's original post. I've owned several ZT knives over the years and the only issues I've ever had were a broken torsion bar here and there so if the knife you have coming is assisted you might want to order a spare one from ZT just to keep on hand.

I was mildly shocked when a video was posted showing 7 out of 7 ZTs failing mild spine whacks against a roll of tape. I decided to try the same with my 0909 and sure enough it folded ridiculously easy. I tried a few other frame and liner locks including Kizer and some cheap Chinese knives and they held. Looking online I've found a few videos of ZTs failing very easily. What's the deal anyway? Is this common?

Oooooops! I don't think anyone could judge those taps as knife abuse... ZT takes proud (or at least that's my feeling) of being overbuilt tank like knives... Curious to see that they do not stay locked with those spine taps.

I know that's not the intended use of a knife, not something a folder should be subjected to... but STIL....

I've never had a problem with my ZTs (granted they are the older 200 and 350). Built like a tank.

Sorry OP had issues. It happens.

This entire story is either A. false or B. indicative that you have some of the poorest observational skills it's possible for an adult human being to have. First of all, calling a manufacturer over something it would take you roughly 45 seconds to handle with a small bit-driver and a $2.00 bottle of blue Loctite probably had them wondering if you were trolling. Secondly, the odds of a knife making it through QC with holes tapped too large for the hardware is slim, if not completely improbable given that a human being puts those knives in the boxes, and a knife rattling due to too-large holes would have been immediately apparent. I have had something like 20 or 25 Zero Tolerance knives in my possession over the years and not one of them has ever had this issue you describe. I've never even heard of it happening (maybe because if it ever did, it's a 30 second fix by the owner, and not worthy of a big hate-post towards ZT).

I think you're making this entire thing up just so you could talk about your Koenig. Please go away.

Appears to be alot of W&C content in this thread..You dumbasses know better than this.
You discuss the subject, not the poster.
Chiclets are coming..don't be surprised if you get one, because you have earned it.

I would be curious to see those knives disassembled I feel like the locking surfaces have been changed to create this and/or the lockbar has been over traveled to give it much less lockup. I have seen slipjoints that were more resistant to a spine whack... maybe not really but you get my point.

I saw the same video and my 0909 does it on a hard surface. It didn't do it against sturby cardboard edge (whacked harder than the table edge) my best guess is the shock being absorbed by the frame rather than the surface.
Its kind of meh but doesn't concern me. (They might wanna address it though)
I haven't gone through all my ZTs since I dont find the "test" particulary useful.

I work in manufacturing. The chances that the wrong tap was used is slim. Even if there was a brain fart along the line and the wrong taps and drills were used, QC at least would have caught it and if not then the Assembly dept. would have definitely caught it. There’s no way there was only one that was drilled and tapped too large on BOTH scales. They run batches of these parts on automated machines with the tools set for the whole run.

This is the most rediculous thread I’ve ever read. Sounds like the OP just wants to crap on ZT.

I have a 10 dollar Chinese Hinderer clone with a steel framelock that was given to me. I beat the snot out of it on a metal table and it wouldn't fail. Something is off when a 200 dollar ZT just folds with light taps

*makes a big fuss over the clone!!!* :p

But yeah you're not wrong imho it doesn't necessarily need to but it should pass the test.

I don't like to spine tap any knife, I tried the 0909 because it only makes contact on lockup on the far corner of the liner. The clone I could not care less about damaging. The nice knives I have I don't really want to beat on. Prefer to watch somebody else do it to theirs.

Are you going to send it in to KAI for warranty work? I would be interested to hear how your CS experience goes.

Just because I got it on me I tried the 0393 and it folds as well under a spine whack. *shrug*
Edit: But it did cut pie just fine :D:cool:
