It does work... Just takes a few more wacks against the wall then the gentleman in the video took. From a physics prospective I'm sure transferring force and pressure inside the bottle have something to do with it. Will upload the pics and give a detailed account once I'm done dinner :)

I don't play with leather a whole lot but when an axe is involved I tend to like leather more than kydex.

Ok so here we go....

Here was our test subject before testing.

As you can see the cork is seated well below the rim of the bottle.

A similar style dress style shoe used for the sake of the experiment.

The bottle seated correctly in the shoe.

Ok so here is where it gets kinda tricky. I smacked it against drywall on the stud about 20 times hard enough that I though I was going to shatter the bottle. Then I realized I may have better luck taking out my custom in-souls. So I removed those from the shoes and went down to the basement to smack the shoe bottle against my concrete foundation. A good 20 more bottle shattering style smacks and the cork was sitting pretty enough to remove it with no effort.

To make it a little manly (because it was a bottle of wine) I had to use my teeth. It did splash me a little bit....refreshing!

Great experiment. I think the agitation of the bottle due to smacking it around so much actually air-rated the wine made it taste amazing with the pork in mushroom sauce we had for dinner! Now with that being said.... I can't leave an open bottle of wine in the fridge.

Cheers,

Tim

Are my pictures showing up from my previous post? for some reason I can't see them.....

I've never seen it anywhere near that bad, but it could certainly happen.

Yeah, what he said... we just thought that was normal when I was a kid. Certainly when my grandparents were starting a family... they really had no choice but to "prep". Including firewood, extra can of gas or two, lantern/candles, all that fun stuff Beckerheads love. :) You might get real freaking tired of canned tomatoes and Bisquik pancakes/biscuits, but you wouldn't starve or freeze.

It's turning back around with the "prepping craze" but I think that kind of stocked larder is still less common than it was a couple decades ago.

most people i know, esp the younger crowd living in the city basically can't cook, don't have the equipment even, beyond some salvation army plates, they eat out a lot, or order in, or eat instant stuff.

they definitely do not have enough anything to last a couple days and rarely have fresh food

i've actually been working my way through the freezer to blow out some older things, and just tossing some jars and junk i haven't opened in a few years. the fridge is basically empty. i have no fresh food on hand, as part of my plan to start over with basic eating, and get into a routine of buying eggs and bacon regular again. Winter is tough as my desire to buy fresh is reduced, esp veggies and fruit, and i don't much feel like cooking, either.

now that i have the SPACE though, man, i could have 4 deep freezers and a giant ass pantry of DOOM. which might actually be a waste, because i just don't seem to need it.

No, they're not. I even hit reply with quote, to see what was going on. Looked right to me.

More USPS fun! I ordered a Zancudo (ESEE folder) which shipped on the 2nd. Was supposed to be here yesterday, 2-day Priority.
It's currently in Opa Locka, Florida (basically Miami). USPS must route them through south Florida for additional heat treating. Smart.

seems to be a wide disparity on the price for that, depending on who you order from, and color :P

but at $27 for the cheapest i saw, that seems like a nice knife

Original post edited and now working properly. I just edited all the image links. Weird it didn't work the first time.

who comes up with these snark titles? I have a few, "snark of our lives, what the snark are you talking about, is that a snark in your pants or are you happy to see me, snark me.. SNARK YOU!, you better not snark that or else"

The weather there sounds terrible. I thought South Dakota was bad.

You kinda get "used" to it, but this extreme cold does suck. Vehicles don't start, diesel fuel gels up.........if something is going to go wrong it will happen in this cold. Luckily it looks like after tomorrow it is supposed to warm up into the single digits below zero anyways and maybe the 20's by the end of the week.
