Yeah I had a little ranger band from a road bike but it broke and I dont know where the rest of that tube is.
Psy - what width is that watch strap? I have a few retaining bands off a Timex Ironman. Mine kept corroding where the pin holds the buckle; those pins are hard to find so I kept buying straps. PM me your addy (you too, mrn8) if you want a couple - might take me a day or two to dig them out.

wood fireplaces aren't very efficient, and are often smokey. But you could install a glass-fronted wood stove.

Just took the liner out of my coat. Soaking wet between the layers. Yummy.

You might be a redneck...

Our house has an insert, but it sticks out quite a ways it has a blower and a flat top that we can even cook on. Today is chili. We get a lot of heat and fun out of ours. The downside is that it keeps the living area warm and the furnace off and then my wife complains about how cold the bedrooms are.

Looks like you need a second thermostat in the bedroom area. We have a fireplace but the family only burns fire logs, I have been trying to break that habit of theirs.

Global warming is in effect in New England. It is 57°F local, right now. I think I'll grab the bug spray and a blanket and catch a tan.

She obviously found a way to stay warm.......what you got like eight kids now right? :D

I looked outside, called work told them "Uh... No." Looked outside again, then the thermometer and decided it wasn't getting shoveled today.
It really wasn't that bad. I dressed for it. Full face mask, etc. Glad it's over with. I shoveled behind the wife's car, but was able to get my truck out, and kept driving back and forth until it was packed. Lots easier than all of that shoveling.

40°F here right now and raining, with a high of 57°F today.... Tomorrow is suppose to be a high of 14°F and a low of 9°F and sunny.

we have a fireplace and it didnt really heat up our place until we put up some curtains to block out the rest of the house... family room is nice and toasty but the rest of the house ice as cold as ice.

A flame thrower would work way faster.

That's cool (I mean hot!).
And good work on the bedrooms.

You can distribute hot air with fans, but also turn up the thermostat when you're running the woodstove so the furnace still comes on occasionally - just enough to take the bite out of the far reaches of the house.

My dream is to run a loop of the circulated hot water circuit behind the woodstove so it keeps the baseboard radiators humming along all around the perimeter of the 1st floor.
