Badeite, last time you posted that picture I stole it and sent it to my Dad as ammo in his debate with my mom on whether or not to install a wood stove where the fireplace is..... It tipped the scales in his favor. For some reason, when she thought of "wood stove" she pictured the old wonder-wood he runs out in his shop.

Interesting. Something I'll definitely research a little more before doing. I have been living in this house now for just over a year. The house is 36 years old and I believe they put in the gas insert over 10 years ago. It has no temperature control or fan and the decoration wood has fallen off the pile and is slowly decaying. I just want to pull it out and get the gas line moved. After which I will get somebody certified to inspect chimneys to check me out to make sure I can still operate the flu's and such.

Getting a stainless insert would be awesome to fit the space. The only problem I would have is the fact that I have small children. They still don't understand that its not good to touch really really hot stuff.

fire screens - keeps little hands 2' or more away from the hot parts.

Yes,

But I have the kind of monkeys that would find a way around it....or on top of it....

You have to pay? Get a .22 it'd be cheaper.

I do have a .22 Magnum, plus a few .303 Lee- Enfields, but the snake posed no real threat so he got to live. If it had been a venomous snake he would have been sent to snake heaven with either a BK9 or rifle :D or maybe both!

Warming up after a cold, shitty day.

I should have totally passed on this trip.....

Seen this, elsewhere.... very nice!

So . . . wherein'ell are you and what are you doing out there?

2 hours from Manhattan. Tearing out a factory my company just bought. The millwrights arrive tomorrow, and the fun begins. I spent all day disconnecting all the electical prior to their arrival.

Now, all I have to do is direct traffic, point at shit and say "that goes". And try not to freeze to death. The high for tomorrow is 7.

Me too they learn what "HOT" means real fast. Even my 11mo stays away from it.

Thanks for the warm welcome.

I never left, I just quit posting........

Til now.

Shoveled out my walks and driveway, went to moms and did hers, and my son called me on the way home, and couldn't get his car out of the drive, so I went over and helped him out. My ass should sleep well tonight. We got home, and the wife decided tomake a quinzee out of the snow from the drive. That girl loves winter and the outdoors as much as I do:

Eek, a Moose!

Marking knives like M-18 Claymore mines, that'd never work.

Heh :D

I checked with local LEO's about the legality of running dummy wires from it up under my Jeep. I was advised against it although it wasn't technically illegal.

Yeah, I imagine that would end up in getting pulled over a lot - full-on felony stop kinda stuff.

I mentioned it to Angie and she said no mines in the yard, either... not even fake ones :(

Dubs - that's a good woman you've got there!
I think you should do whatever it takes to convince her to let you keep hanging around! ;)

our snow is very powdery - no good for making a quinzee. :(

lol :D

i spent a pretty penny on it, and primo installation, and it's been pretty good so far.

next year i hope to have a significant amount of wood stored and dried; this year i bought a pallet of 5.5 pound wood pellets - they burn pretty good, but probably nothing like a stack of oak; though they claim the stuff is 2ish times as dense as oak, and it does burn super clean. mix and match :>

as well, i dearly want a trailer (first) and a "logrite log arch" (second) which will make it vastly more easy to acquire pallets (broken and not), logs, and save my back... oh my yes.

it's pretty nifty to go out and spend 30 minutes to get a month or two's worth of downed branches as kindling, or steal scrap wood from friends :D

i still have to burn some oil to keep the pipes from freezing, since wood won't do the whole house; maybe a wood stove in the basement ;)

runs hot!
