that's funny because I saw the first Hobbit movie and got the book for my kindle reader and after I finished it I got the Lord of the Rings too and read them.. tried to find some other old school fantasy epics, but couldn't find any in the Kindle store.. The Belgariad series, Shannara series, Rift War saga.. none of them are on kindle yet.

Love "The Belgariad" and "The Mallorean" Series. I re-read them every few years. Another series I love as well is "The Incarnations of Immortality" series by Piers Anthony. I read 9 books of the "Wheel of Time" series but I started to get pissed at it because they were 700+ pages of soap opera type drama......no action and the story was nowhere near ending. I realized I could have skipped whole volumes and still the characters would be right where I left them 5 books back. The story (if you can call it that) just keeps going and going and going. Boring.

Should snark this thing out tonight. Only 40 snarks or so to go.

Think you can eat a 72 oz steak in less than 3 minutes? This 120 lb woman did... Damn!

Holy crap!! I couldn't do a 16oz steak that fast.

Ditto. And wouldn't want to try. Looked like she swallowed whole bites without chewing. That has got to be bad for you digestive system... Not to mention a steak should be savored, not choked down like a hot dog....

That was pretty disturbing. Something about a scrawny tattooed meth-head-lookin' chick devouring that much bloody flesh that fast makes me want to back away slowly with my hand on my knife...

Anyway, no, I wouldn't even try. A buddy and I tried to eat a 5# pizza by ourselves once back in college, and about halfway through we realized... "This is stupid. We're not even enjoying it. In fact, this kinda sucks." That was the end of my competitive eating career :p

I feel about the same way regarding superhot peppers and sauces... I just don't get it. To each their own, though.

No, but my wife got me hooked on Game of Thrones. I'll probably finish the 1st season tonight. Don't tell me what happens! :D

I haven't seen all of it since I don't have HBO, but I'm pretty sure some people die...and some people don't. I do know for a fact that some of the women are really hot! Sorry for the spoilers...

Can anyone else feel the "biscuit" hovering? His presence is actually palpable..like a disturbance in the force...

loved The Incarnations of Immortality series.. my brother's first band was called Aspect of Fate, lol. I need to reread those for sure.. I had to throw my old paperbacks out because they had become so worn the pages fell off the bindings..

damn these ads... makes reading on the ol smart phone a pain in the assets... talk about wasted screen realestate

Haven't read the Elric books in 20 years or more, may need to dig those up.. read a few of the Pern and couldn't get into the rest.. Burroughs is awesome! Didn't get into the Wheels of time books, but I have all the Dune, old and new in hardback.. I haven't heard of the White Ring Bearer before, who wrote it? Have not read any Terry Pratchet before, but I have been wanting to read The Long Earth and the other books in that series because Stephen Baxter is one of my absolute favorites..

The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant fantasy series written by Stephen R. Donaldson. White Gold Wielder was one of them not what I said originally. Also Ringworld and Integral Trees by Larry Nivin, great stuff . Anything by Terry Brooks too, if you want a very funny and good fantasy read. Ummm Coldfire Trilogy by CS Friedman is strong too, fantasy, and sci fi but you dont feel the sci fi since its kinda back story. Starts out with Black Sun Rising I think

The trick is, get them in paperback, then tear them apart and put each persons stories together ...lol They do jump around ALOT, Like heres half a book about this group to get you hooked, now its gonna be three more books before I write about them again.

I know as soon as I leave to go home in a minute, everyone will show up in here and when I log back on a hour from now there will be a new snark thread with like 7 pages on it.. :)

sipping on some rowan's creek bourbon. Anyone had it before? I know guyon is a man who enjoys bourbon.

It was recommended to me so i had to snag a bottle. just curious what anyone else thought.

^^^^^ BAN!!!

Just finished making supper. Penne with chicken, bacon, roasted red peppers, minced garlic, onions, fresh green beans, and topped with some smoked gouda from the micro-plane.

Yep, I read the Eddings series and then the Wheel of Time stuff. But the Wheel of Time premise was that everything was circular, so you can quit after the first go-round.

Few more to go, will we make it tonight?

Dinner tonight was fried chicken, corn, peas, roasted potatoes, and Pillsbury rolls. mmmmmm leftovers in the fridge for later!

We had a smorgasbord...leftovers from a couple of great meals from earlier in the week.
