Non smokers who carry lighters

Don't smoke, but always have a mini bic in my pocket.

Aside from the obvious survival reasons . . .

You never know when a pretty girl might need a light!

for my hiking packs and psk's i prefer tossing orange or yellow bics in just for visibility.

I confess. All of mine are orange too.

Just thought you'd like to know, yellow lighters are bad luck. Get rid of them! They're full of bad Ju-ju.

I asked someone for a light once and he handed me a yellow Bic. I went to give it back and he said "Keep it. They're bad luck" and explained the whole thing. Apparently he didn't realize he was carrying a yellow lighter. Don't know how that happened.

I haven't bought one since. I didn't suffer any bad luck because I got rid of it quick but I'm not one to tempt fate.

:p

How well do those split peas work? They look pretty cool, but I've never handled one before.

I've been thinking about getting a few of these to use as first-to-find prizes in new geocaches. I know I'd like to get one, anyway!

Both the Split Pea and original Peanut lighters have always wored very well for me.

Cheapo disposable at all times, white tip matches, safety matches, and magnesium fire starter all in my hunting pack. I don't like to be cold.:)

I don't smoke and I've always carried some way of starting a fire. I started out with matches, then I switched to a Zippo I got when I was 12, carried it for five years and lost it in a river, then I switched to Bics but I got tired of them always going out when I needed them, then I switched over to a Windmill lighter last year, that broke and I moved back to a Zippo a couple of months ago. The Zippo is by far the most reliable I've ever used because you can burn just about anything in it and it's so simple you'd really have to try to break it to the point where it wouldn't light.

Non-Smoker here - but I carry a lighter.

One of these:

A cheapie for sure, but it is O-ring sealed and seems to work well. I bought 5 of them to get the cheaper pricing and I have filled all of them with Zippo lighter fluid. I keep one in my pocket and have the rest lying around. Every now and then I'll test one that is lying around - after 4 months they still light fine, no sign of fuel evaporation. They are small enough to easily fit into a coin pocket on a pair of jeans. For camping I can keep on in my pocket and a couple in my pack - small, light & waterproof are pretty useful characteristics IMO. Despite being cheap rubbish they seem to work reliably - haven't had one let me down yet!

I always carry, year round, wherever I go whether wild hog hunting or walking the aisles of walmart, at home or at work: a schrade multi-tool either on my belt >said belt paracord wrapped< or in a front pocket, a stockman pocketknife, and a bic lighter also in a front pocket. And a mini led flashlight and a firesteel and mag bar on my keychain in another front pocket. I once tried using a zippo lighter but it dried out quickly, usually when i needed it. I've considered getting an expensive >can't fail< type of lighter like I've seen on websites selling mountain climbing gear; but I consider my firesteel and mag bar to be my >can't fail< backup firestarters, and the bic lighters are cheap and very reliable for what they are. I also constantly use the multitool, flashlight and pocket knife. If I want to start a fire just to stay warm and not to practice survival firestarting skills then the bic is a quick and easy way to get the flames roaring. And no I have never smoked.

Never smoked but normally have a Silva Helios with me. Australian Army Match Boxes and various fire steels are sprinkled through out my gear.
I work in a camping shop. Several times a year I'll have a bloke around my age ( early 40's) who will relate the story of how he and a group of mates have gone camping/fishing/hunting at the same time every year normally hours from anywhere, They arrive often after dark and then realise that one by one they have all given up smoking and this trip no body has a match or lighter.
Pryo777 when I was a teen ( 15-16) I did a Scout initiative badge course ( a weekend long navigation exercise where a number of incidents were there to test you initiative First aid, creek crossings etc )
One of our challenges was to get all our patrol 2meters off the ground then boil a liter of water. We got every one up while ignoring the fire blackened flat rock nearby When we were settled, I dug my 40yr old ( then ) metholyted spirits ( denatured alcohol) stove out set it in a crook and boiled our water. Instructor complained we were supposed to use the rock and build a small fire. My argument was ( and I prevailed) We weren't told to build a fire but only to boil the water.

I have bic's stashed every where. I picked up a rather large bag of them from somewhere...... a whole shopping bag. so I figure that if at any time I need one, there will be 4 or 5 nearby, odds are that even Murphy won't get all of them

I don't smoke but I carry something like this:

TURBOJET_LIGHTER_TU07_1.jpg

I can almost cook on it. Like a knife there's always a use for it.

K&M Matchcase in the front of my vehicle at all times. Don't take it into work or the house, but I put it in my pocket when I step foot on dirt, carrying a pack or not.

Like others, I carry a Minibic, though mine is red. Wrapped with paracord and attached to my keychain, so it's always with me, unless I'm not wearing pants.

I have a few Bics in my car & three or four Ronson Jet Lite's in the house
so I always have a lighter close.

Non smoker.

I recently acuired one of the Imco-Triplex Super 6700 - must be the newer version of the bottom one in Doc's photo. Made in Vienna Austria. Very sturdy lighter for $6. I like it because once lit, the fuel tank can easily be slid out and you essentially have a metal "candle" with a 3 -4 inch flame :)
Mine also has an adjustable air intake for setting the flame height during normal operation.

I also have disposable bics stashed various places.
Does anyone else remove the little metal "child proof" strip from their bic?
Some bics I've had for over 15 years and they still work great.

You should also carry a Victorinox SAK all the time as they stop ninja attacks. I have been carrying my SAK every day and have not been attacked by a ninja even once!
