Non-Tactical Looking Knife?

Yes, that was a butter knife. ;)

Try an Paramilitary maybe? I can't seem to think of black as a bad idea, considering a lot of knives have black handles.

Perhaps a Sage II? I can't find a problem using that grip with any of my knives. Are you holding it further back? What is the index finger doing?

He is talking about a reverse hammer grip.

The thumb is on the back of the knife or on the butt of the handle with edge out to the attacker. That way you can punch or slash easy pointing your thumb at the target.

I have carried a Benchmade 940 with green aluminum scales as a "gentleman's knife". Never had any problems with it, used to carry it onto airplanes before 9/11.

I think that my Spyderco Bob Lum Chinese knife looks scarier than the 940.

Thanks, that clarifies things re almost all knives having black handles.

I would be interested in clipped knives with black inlay. Preferably medium large oval handle, 3.5 to 4 inch blade.

I am politically active here and oppose corrupt contractors who are tied to corrupt politicians and judges, so I need as lawyer proof a knife as possible.

That's why you are worried, OK I get it now. ;)

Ok, check out Cold Steel, Benchmade, Gerber and SOG, you will find all of them have knives that will work for you.

I would check out the CS Hatamoto 1st though, IMO it's the best knife for that grip.

Go with the higher end knives as they look classier, just have black inlays, you should be able to pick one for about $250 or under. Don't pay retail prices, check Amazon prices as there are stores there that have great prices. CutleryUSA and PoorFish Outdoors are good ones.

Ah. I'd suggest the P'Kal but that is a purpose built knife, with black handles.

Have you looked into the Kopa or Kiwi? Maybe sacrifice that grip for the sake of carrying a more aesthetic knife? Some Kershaws are very nice (rainbow leek) but I don't think they are as suited to this grip.

the problem with spydercos is that the back spine of the blade ramps up and with my hand/thumb, it means that the thumb is pushed up, off center, and feels uncomfortable. The index finger sits there in a loose grip.

The hatamoto is mall ninja on steroids, plus I prefer a drop point kind of blade for cutting capabilities. The only thing the hata is good for is fighting. Plus, that video for the hata would be be presented in court as prima facie intent. Meat in a sleeve?! c'mon....

For the grip you like the CS Hatamoto would be perfect it's like it's made for it and the handles are big enough also.

You would have to hold one to be sure it fits you though, but I know it fits fine in that grip for me and I have pretty big hands.

if you find yourself stabbing someone to death. your likely to be in crap regardless of the knifes color or name. Especially if its some politician etc.

Just a note, most of these knives dont have the name on the blade.

I thought you wanted an SD knife, my bad.

Not quite Mall Ninja, they are Semi Custom purpose built for SD and VERY STRONG serious knives. Mall Ninjas can't afford them. But yeah the video might not be too good in court. LOL

So you want an EDC looking knife then, look at SOG. :)

Thanks, maybe benchmade or the inlaid knives on those sites. CS are mall ninja, gerbers are ugly and sogs are either sat or paramilitary.

A Kershaw Double Cross...It looks like a two bladed traditional folder (no where near tactical looking), has thumbstuds for one handed opening, relatively thick linerlock for both a clip point and sheepsfoot blade. The handle isn't thin and its a well built knife. For your criteria this may be the closest you will get, and under $60 bucks.

a buck 110 with a one hand jack on it
Yep, the Buck 110....

I know you said you dont like Kershaw, but maybe you should take a second look. They have many designs and not all are like the E.T. A blade of the size you are looking for isnt exactly sheeple friendly anyhow, maybe something under 3in. would do the job.

If you definately want something over 3.5, the one for you to look at would be the JYD II. It is a linerlock that has a 3 3/4in. blade and can be had with grey G10 scales, it also lends itself nicely to the style of grip you are looking for. It doesnt have a thumbstud but the PB washers that Kershaw uses make the flipper on it more than suitable for quick one hand deployment.

Almost seems as though it was made for the grip he’s describing.

:eek::eek::eek: Who'd a thunk it? :confused:

Reading your original post, you seem to be discounting a lot of nice knives (Kershaw, BM, Spyderco, the whole lot) based on their performance in one specialized and odd grip.

Get two. Get the P'Kal (purpose made for this grip) and then grab a Leek, Grip, Paramilitary, Delica, Endura, JYD, or 940 for your EDC knife. Most knives don't work well in a SD and EDC capacity.

I think I found something closer to what I'm looking for.

Are there other companies that make folders similar to the Lone Wolf Longhorn in wood handle? A drop point would be preferred.

Following up on your last pointer, perhaps these 3 designs could please you. Of coure, I still have no clue what a filipino thrust grip is, so what do I know :)

- Fox Pro Hunter with wooden handle
One day I'll buy it!
Fox is a top quality brand. These knives use good N690 steel.

- somewhat smaller, FKMD (Fox Knives Military Division) Gunhammer with wooden handle
Exists in drop point and in tanto versions

- Mcusta Tactility series with wooden handle.
Normal blade with opening hole
Layered damascus blade with thumbstud
It's a really good brand.

What about Mcusta? They produce some wonderful knives that might fit your criteria. I'm thinking MC-1?
