NorthEast Beckerhead 2016 Spring Gathering

Thanks for that, Jeremy. I feel SO much better about getting there on Friday now. Though I've never known this particular Jason to be that scary. Except when he's eating grubs. Looking forward to seeing you guys!

Haha, I would so go but it is a 36 hour drive. D: I love road trips but that would be my biggest!

Yes I too saw the irony in meeting up with Jason at a cabin in the woods on Friday the 13th...

There is this one too:

Now almost don't feel as bad about not being able to make this one :)

Black flies: the NH state bird. I figured as much; they're appearing here as well - thanks for the warning, though. Good thing my hammock has the net. For those of you that have never experienced black fly season, consider yourself lucky. They are.....aggravating, to say the least. After you spray yourself with some (usually ineffective) bugspray, they find every hole in your perimeter defense: nostrils, ears, eyes....then bite you anyway, despite DEET. And then you bleed ('cause they actually bite) and itch like nobody's business. The season is mercifully short....but in-season, they can ruin a hike or outside gathering in short order. Plus, they seem to hunt in packs.....I've been chased out of the woods/off the trail/down the mountain a couple of times by some pretty malevolent clouds of black flies. Still.....totally looking forward to this gathering - even if I'm slathered in bug juice all weekend.

Clearly calagel - buy some

Antihistamine - take some

Seems to help

Hey NE'ers,
Sorry I won't be able to make it this weekend. :-(

i know! i'm not even sarcastic for once.

shit. i have to look up shamooo oil now on ebay.

All packed up and ready to start the trip. Can't wait to catch up with everyone!

Jeremy

I've got the pork log in the cooler and packing up the rest of my $#!t right now....though I probably won't get up there til 5-ish. Really looking forward to it.

rumor has it that vinegar in a spray bottle helps deter flying/bitey things.
cider vinegar is supposed to work best, but it can stain light colored fabrics.
you also smell funny for about 3 minutes.

Thanks again to trailbum for getting it done. Hung out with old friends, met a few new ones. New venue was pretty sweet. Spent my first night in my ENO hammock under the fly and NOT in my own back yard. Got a lot to learn about swinging, still. Had a great time....and daizee, I'm sorry you couldn't be there. Used my birudashi to open a few beverages. Thanks to TheMadIndian for lunches and helping me string up my perch. Thanks also to dresnor and copperhead88 for the breakfasts (as well as meisterchef trailbum) and Mrs. trailbum for the goodies. Special shoutouts to the Silverthorn family for showing up and bringing plenty of good cheer - and Yuengling, as well as Bladite for the yummy meat snacks and Survival Rations. I'm always a little bummed when I have to leave and then wait another 6 months for the next one. I'll have some pics & (hopefully) videos posted in the next day or three. Missing this one and looking forward to the next one already.
