Not a Happy Customer...

I'm no fanboy, although I am impressed with the 2 spydies I do own, I can't help but think a phone call to spydie CS prior to posting this thread would've been a good idea... That said, I think threads like this (when kept in check) are beneficial to both the company and the customers. For one, no CS is perfect, there will always be a hiccup or 2, but for spyderco to have the reputation it does they must do SOMETHING right 99% of the time (humans will never be perfect). If there is an issue with a knife, or someone in CS, they see these threads and can address it, and we can follow how the situation is handled. I can't think of many industries with that much transparency...

I will reserve judgment for another official spyderco reply on the situation...

What is interesting is that Spyderco asked questions at all. I sent a KA-BAR mule in for repair due to lock failure. Rather than question the dings, scuffs, and scratches on the blade, handle, and coating (which was nearly gone), I was simply sent an email asking me what knife out of their line that I would like to have, considering my own was discontinued, and received it free of charge. Unless there were outward signs that the lock was actually tampered with, I question Spyderco on this one.

I do suspect that the knife was repackaged after someone either abused or disassembled the lock. A knife company like Spyderco loses extremely little money in sending a replacement, whereas a thread like this where Spyderco simply came in and posted publicly that they were doing everything to fix it could create many potential Spyderco fans, and the company would profit greatly from the bargain. There was a thread a while ago on a busted RAT knife that some dude in India broke. RAT did everything in the open on the forum, and made sure they did everything they could to fix the problem. Several people on that thread became RAT fans, and the company probably turned a profit in all of this, all by manipulating their image.

1. We don't know anything other then one side.
2. Why do you assume they loose very little money? Why do you assume this is about money?
3. Are you saying that Spyderco is deliberately driving people to the public forum so they can "take care of them publicly" and "profit greatly" in the process?
4. You're saying ESSE [RAT] knives is manipulating their image by providing a public customer service request?

I'm a bit confused about what you are actually saying and why you feel this is a good place to say it.

Wow, sorry you feel that way Vasilli. However, that doesn't make your comments true for either Kershaw or Spyderco or for the fans of their knives.

Wow, sorry you feel that way Rocco. However, that doesn't make your comments more true then mine. You just air it without any proves, while I saw how destruction of Kershaw subforum happened pretty clear and remember it well (as I remember how Kershaw subforum was started and I was among first who wellcomed it - easy to check archive). Kershaw mafia fanboys destroy Kershaw forum because no one, except those aggressive fanboys can come and discuss anything without being attacked.

It was initially a place for people to share opinions and discuss knives, steels, knife technologies etc. But once Kershaw Mafia erected there - it was the end. It turns into playground of hooligans which excuse their attacks on anyone who visited it by "company loyalty" which suppose to be absolutely fanatical.

I do not think that there is connection between this and Ken Onion "new contract terms" which he can not accept, but it is same path Kershaw going now. Going into direction I do not really like.

I hope they will not do same with Spyderco sub forum. I am actually surprized what else may bring them here? No other place to stay any more?

Thanks, Vassili.

What brings me here is a desire to learn about pocket knives. I like knives that are good values and those that are the best that a company has to offer. I have no other pretensions beyond that.

I thought this was the Spyderco forum. How in the world did Kershaw, Ken Onion, etc. get dragged into this? Come on guys, just chill and let the affected parties do what they need to do. None of us have a dog in this fight anyway.

Silence is golden . . .

At this point I think it's already between the OP and Spyderco. As it should be . . . And should have been . . . Reason being, I tense up when I feel cornered or challenged. And I suspect any proud company is not much different than a human being, male in particular, who feels challenged, insulted or threatened, none of which has technically occurred here "yet" but I think we can all agree that civility and fairness is the catlyst of compromise and and resolve.

Kershaw mafia destroyed Kershaw subforum already with this kind of flame attack culture if any issue or something looks like issue razed. It looks like they bringing this gift of fanboy mentality all over Bladeforums now.

How nice.

To me the more Spyderco ignore this discussion - more damage it will bring to Spyderco image.

Thanks, Vassili.

Sorry Vassili,
But my post in this thread has absolutely nothing to do with Kershaw or my love of their knives. I'm shocked you even brought that up:confused: My post had everything to do with wanting you to take your OWN advice and leave the resolution of any problems up to the customer and Spyderco. I'm sure they can resolve it much better than we can;)

Thanks, Jonny

Seriously guys... WTF....

Lock the damn thing and let it be settled between the two parties....

Too many people on the internet(and in person) need to stick their nosy asses in other peoples business.

We know spyderco for its reputation and theres no need to sit here and bicker about something because one person is bitching because he cant handle a simple fee. Like Esav said, dont add more fuel to the fire.

the op started a thread, therefore he stuck his business out for the entire world to see.

no one is sticking their nosey asses anywhere.

Morimotom is right. I posted this thread, but I wasn't expecting a cat fight between eachother. No need for that.

The good thing about a thread like this is it reminds us what knife knuts feel is important and gets the attention of people who can solve problems, -- even if it's not always the best way of getting their attention. :p

Yes, it brings the trolls out of the woodwork, too. But they are my problem. Just ignore them.

imo, the problem this thread has become is not the cs issue, necessarily.

please bear in mind i am not calling in to question your character or honesty, however you lack credibility here.

many of the members are familiar with each other, and moreso in the individual brand forums. we (or they) exhange posts often on a daily basis and understand to a large degree the different personalities and how to interact with each other.

when a "new guy" creates a stir regarding what is generally not a common experience, it will be questioned. our loyalties will lie with those whom we already know and trust, ie spyderco and kristi.

and when someone starts a thread and states it is not intended to start a flame war or not intended to incite "fanboys", you can almost guarantee that is exactly what will happen.

I said it once and I'll say it again. I wouldn't send off a knife to spyderco that is clearly out of warranty, then come on here and bitch about it because they wanted to charge me to fix it. I don't have that much time on my hands to stir stuff up. I thought you guys would want to hear my story. When I get this knife back, i'm going to post pics of it.

I believe that there are few "cat fights" on the Spyderco forum because the afi's that "hang out" here, generally monitor themselves quite well.

Hi Jesse,

I don't think that you intended any problems. I generally don't get involved in CS issues as we have excellent CS staff. My view is for CQI or design or construction problems. Considering we have millions of knives in the field, we have relatively few quality issues.

We welcome the opportunity to discuss any subjects involving our company.....Even those that are not positive. That's how we improve.

People come to our forums for many reasons. Some like to follow our company and product development from an "insider's" point of view, some just like our knives, some come for deeper discussion of steels or designs, some like the comraderie and general communication with like minded people, some have a problem, some want to vent. Some just like to argue.

That's what forums are about. As long as the dialogue is civil and relatively intelligent, it's ok.

sal
