Not sure what to do here

Man that sucks. I do see that your trader rating is impeccable and I hope this isn't one of those cases of dishonest postal workers but it looks like it might be.
Like the guy said before, it can't hurt to try to make a claim.

ive learned it is never safe to assume anyone has read a post in its entirety, in any of the forums, or if read, actually understood everything.

the buyer is relatively new, and probably didn't see the post with the insurance clause since it wasn't part of actual for sale sections.

he probably just saw the pictures, and scrolled down to make his post.

While I agree with your post he has 12 feedbacl in less than a year so he is not new ro buying and selling on the forum.

Just to be clear I dont want this to turn into a rep vs rep thing.I have worked hard for my rep long before itrader was used.

I posted this thread because I was confused in what to do.One hand is sorry I gave you a choice to purchase insurance and you chose not to,tough luck.On the other hand we are all knife nuts and I feel bad that he did not get the knives I sent him.

Rycen, You had the man's money in hand when you shipped. He HAD completed his half of the deal.

Your obligation: to get the knives into his hands in exchange for his money.

You did not. You owe either knives or money to this man.

The post where you even mention insurance is several posts removed from any of the posts selling the various knives. It is very likely that little blurb was missed. Hell, I had to read the entire thread twice to find it.

Your fault, take your medicine.

Paul

For the amount of money involved in that one missing knife the best thing to do is work it out (cash back or another knife)

It's not worth all the stress for a few bucks...................

I have to agree with wolfmann ..... If it will help i have a buck 110 donate to the cause....

i always get insurance. its never for the buyer, that way, if it gets lost he gets his money back. i know in advance im too nice a guy to not pay them back.

Sorry but I disagree 100%.He or anyone else read the post on how I took payment it was clearly stated.I posted it separately so it did not get lost in the other posts with the knives/details.

Thanks for the offer you are good people.

The buck 110 is the one that made it to him.

i'm not taking any sides here, and i don't mean to tell you how to do business.

but ive always listed conditions for sales/trades in the first post, normally within the first sections of text. when people are looking, i think the tendency is going to be to look toward the top for conditions.

in other words, they see a knife they like, and they will scroll up to see if trades are accepted, paypal, mo, etc.

as it is, i also missed your insurance clause the first time i opened the thread.

If anyone cares to read my 2 cents here it is.

I would first ask for a photo of the box in the condition he received it.

Next I would try to work out a refund amount between myself and the buyer. Something we both agreed to.

Last refund X amount of dollars.

Hope this helps and gets worked out soon.

On low dollar sales (less than $30), I'll ship without insurance, though I always do delivery confirmation. It's my risk though, and if the package doesn't get there, I know I'm out the cash. Otherwise, price includes shipping and insurance.

I don't have the answer to this one, but in the future, I'd make the option to buy insurance clear, and I'd put in a disclaimer that, by NOT purchasing insurance, the buyer assumes any risks during delivery.

I have asked for a pic of the box,I am sure I will get one when he gets bhome from work.

Once again, insurance or the lack of insurance doesn't change responsibility -- not in a knife deal, not in anything. If you get paid for a knife you have to deliver it or refund the payment.

Criminals are always talking about insurance (not that Rycen is a criminal; he's just a little confused). They're always saying they're not responsible for whatever they stole or vandalized or accidentally damaged because "the insurance company will pay for it." And if you tell them the victim didn't have insurance, they always say, "Well then it's his own fault for not insuring it. He shoulda known better. He didn't buy insurance -- his loss." You know how impressed the courts are by that argument?

Insurance is for the protection of the Seller, NOT the Buyer. Only the Seller can file a claim. I don't understand why that concept is so hard to grasp for so many folks. We see these type of threads come up all the time. The Buyer should not even be asked whether he wants insurance or not. The Seller assumes the risk of non delivery or theft if the item doesn't make it.

I always just add the price of the insurance to whatever I sell. The Buyer either pays my asking price or he doesn't get the item.

I agree 100% with Sheathmaker on this one. Consider it a relatively cheap lesson.

If I did not mention insurance I 100% agree it is my responsibility to get the buyer what they paid for.
