Morning!
Thanks for all the nice messages, and the mountains of email this morning. Nice to be assured one is appreciated now and then, although you guys never left me wanting appreciation!

Sometimes folks throw you a curve, and you either duck or hope your facemask is secure...I didn't duck fast enough, but my facemask is intact, and I still have all my teeth.

Time for bigger and better things, my faith holds me up and assures me that God has a plan, and every incident in life is by God's own direction. Nothing is by accident.

I'll still be a forumite, this place is too ingrained in my system...(my emotional system and my computer system)! Now I just don't have to worry about offending someone, or stepping out of bounds. But those of you who know me, know that is not my style anyway.

I harbor no ill will, and am thankful for the opportunity and experience I gained at Spyderco.

My profile reflects my personal email address, feel free to talk to me there.

Thanks again!
Danelle

Danelle,

I'm glad to hear you're doing OK and that you're maintaining a positive attitude. I am looking forward to seeing you around the boards.

Best Wishes,
Brian

Danelle, meet you in ICQ one of these days, okay?

Hi guys. Thanks for all of the input regarding the future of Customer Service and the Forum.

As for who will take on the responsibilities of the Forum, this will continue to be a mix of our staff. Sal, Vince, Joyce, myself as well as some additional new faces, will keep you guys informed and answer any questions sent our way.

As for the customer service staff, keep in mind that this team consisted of 3 full time crew as well as occassional help from several staff members in Sales and Marketing. As the Manager of Sales and Customer Service, I do commit that we will continue to provide the best service that we can.

Thanks for the support and I look forward to talking to you.

Michelle

OK, after reading all the info, the way I see it is I got some bad news and some good news.

The bad news is Danelle is gone, for some unknown reason, and we (the forumites) are at a loss.

The good news is... look at all that money I'm gonna save on spydie-knives now.

Maybe that is a little premature, but I don't like people being cut (no pun intended). The other knife companies have always sounded like just that... companies. Spyderco always sounded to me more like a family. I guess I was wrong.

O_D - Sorry you feel that way. Perhaps one day you'll change your mind.

Spyderco has demonstrated on many occassions for many years that above all else, we try to be fair.

I'm surprised that you would just assume that Spyderco's action was unjustified, wrong or unfair, but everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I think some folks are "jumping the gun" a bit, here.

I met Danelle and Sal on this forum only a few months ago. I was impressed with the honesty, integrity, and overall positive attitude they showed. I was already a Spyderco fan, but my esteem for the company increased enormously due to their attitudes. I was so impressed that I made a trip to Colorado (I'm in Massachusetts) to see what made Spyderco tick. (Yes, a full trip writeup is still pending)

The most amazing thing I found at Spyderco was that Sal and Danelle are just the tip of the iceberg - I've never seen a company so packed with happy, friendly people. Vince, Patrick, Owen, Charlie, Gail, Michelle, and many others took the time to talk with me, teach me about what they do, and answer any questions I had. Folks I'd never even met knew who I was from the forum and gave a friendly hello or asked me about forum topics. It seemed like more than a business... closer to a "family."

My point: these are all good people. Spyderco is a special kind of company, but they are still a company - let's not judge them poorly for decisions that any company must make.

ok, the thought im having is that we have all gotten a bit rilled up over this, im going to put myself in the "good luck djo, keep yourself around" camp.
as far as the company is concerned, there are a lot of good people who have worked hard for us there and i can assume that the near legendary level of customer service spyde has come to represent will not be going away any time soon.

my apologies to all if my (or my fellow formites) postings were to probing or nosy, but this had the same feeling to me if this had happined in the next room at MY office, i dont know why really, just did. so sal, michelle, vince and the rest of you: NO HARD FEELINGS, OK? its like were all friends here and it just struck us kind of hard. (even though it was really none of our buisness.)

(im gonna quit typing now...)

This is what I call "artificial intimacy"...We're all virtually strangers, yet the internet makes us feel much closer, especially since we have such an abiding common interest. I am distressed to know that Danelle isn't with Spyderco, but I'll continue to reserve judgement on the company itself until they give me reason to change my mind. (Best of luck in everything Danelle! I'm glad to know that we'll still hear from you!)

Sal,

This is new territory for many, the internet. It has bridged the gulf in communications between manufacturers and customers, and has generated many benefits for all concerned. As we grow with the use of this medium we will continue to discover additional benefits, and, yes, some negatives.

In all honesty I think that no one is questioning you or your firms ethics, management perogatives, or personnel policies. I do think there have been some rather regretful emotional posts made with insufficient reflection. Heck, I've been guilty of that on occassion too

.

Jeff Hubbard recently left Buck accepting a position elsewhere and there was an outpouring of best wishes and sentiments that he'd be missed. Will Fennell likewise in leaving EDI but now resurfacing with Camillus. Both occupied different levels with their respective former firms but, as with Danelle, shared a common generic face on the forums here. They were viable and responsive contacts for many forumites plain and simple. Obviously Will also could speak as the EDI president and Jeff as a Quality Manager. Danielle was empowered to speak here as a Spyderco Customer Service Representative. All were uniformly perceived as doing a bang up job here. Hence the sentiments.

I, like Drew aka Corduroy, have had the advantage to have met you, your lovely wife Gail, and a whole passle of Spydie employees in Golden, Colorado. As a group and as individuals you made me feel very welcome and lavished attention on me during my too brief visit. The vast majority of your team is unknown to the forumite community. A shame as Drew has justly pointed out. I have no doubts that you, in continuing to share your time with us here, and Michelle, or whomever else you may come to utilize to augment your presence for that matter, will continue to nurture and expand the spirit that has embodied this forum from its inception. Don't confuse the peaks and valleys with the longterm. Remember this all grew out of consternation about Spyderco pricing

. And we will move forward once again!

All the best,

Well, Sal, I must say that I have already changed my mind. What I wrote above was off the cuff, poorly thought out, and immature. For that, I apologize. I would go back and delete both my posts, but feel that they should stay, so that people don't read through the thread, read your reply, and say, "WTF-O?"

I do not know the entire story, and it really isn't my business. Your knives are good, you stand by them, and you have given every impression of being a very upstanding individual (even though I'm still a little confused by the MAAP, but that's another story, and I guess it won't keep me up at night). The same good things can apparently be said about your company.

So, with all that being said, in summary, I say:

"Mr. Glesser, Ms. Espinosa, et al at Spyderco, I apologize for my post above."

"Danelle, best of luck in your future. Please stay in touch here on the forums."

Thank you for your patience in listening to my drivel.

It's good to know Danelle will be around and doing fine.
Anyhow, I still remain a loyal Spyderco ELU and support Sal, as well as all the rest of the Spydie crew.

Having been in a position to releve someone, I can tell you that it is no fun. I know "diplo speak" when I hear it. This was seen by Sal to be of the "gravest extreme". At least he didn`t terminate her with extreme prejudice. So be it. He knows his buisness, and moreover, it is his buisness.

Well now, I just caught this and the other related threads. This may explain in part for the ongoing terrible/ sub par customer service with my strait from the box defective BF Native. Still haven' t gotten it back yet since it became available. At least not a non- defective one! Incredible.

Mr Glesser: what' s the deal???? (E mail if you' d prefer).

L8r,
Nakano
