Nutnfancy

Let me start by saying that Youtube reviewers in general are super helpful for those of us living in countries where we can't walk into a knife store and see products from good brands in person. Seeing them used on video, placed next to other knives we might own, etc. is great.

I've got mixed feelings about Nutnfancy. On the one hand, I respect all the work he puts into his videos. I might not agree with all of his opinions on knives (for instance, I don't like SOG folders), but he's helped me spot some cool stuff and avoid some bad investments. I don't mind the long winded reviews, because I rarely sit and watch a whole video. I just have it playing in the background while I do other stuff.

However, I've noticed that he's taking himself to seriously lately. Things like saying that a manufacturer changed features on a knife because of his review, etc. The whole "tactical" thing is not my cup of tea either. He reminds me of the guys that dress like Rambo when they go to the shooting range.

Nutnfancy is an individual with a great deal more influence over the gun and knife industry than he actually deserves. He served the military as a tanker pilot, great. He is not some spec-ops warrior-god who's opinions on knives and firearms are gospel. Some of his beliefs (the whole Sheepdog thing) are downright moronic, if not damaging to the firearms community as a whole. I don't understand why some individuals worship him so much.

There are other ex-mil/LEOs who's opinions I really take into consideration (Andrew Touhy of Vuurwapenblog to name a few), but Nutnfancy is not one of them.

I like him. Is he without faults? Not anymore than he's perfect. But he's entertaining and he seems to be pretty honest about what he says, agree or not. I don't take the "I disagree, therefore he's an idiot" approach that many seem to.

I don't get these threads. Watch or don't. Why bag on people?

In all honesty, he has served our country, he's a pilot and he is an LEO, maybe a small measure of humility and or common sense could have... well, rather should have been used by you there.

What do I think? He's not my brand. Average shooter, rather opinionated when it comes to things that are truly trivial but all in all seems like a good dude. Sure, you'll catch people who dog him for being a nerd (See a few posts above) but he's comfortable in his own skin and he is himself 24/7. If YOU dig his reviews great man, keep on em, enjoy his stuff and support the dude in ways you desire. Don't feel the need to put a gap between yourself and things you dig because of the likes of some clowns.

Not everyone is up on their weapons platform, current into self defense, law enforcement etc and he reaches out to a large crowd of people.

Very well put my friend... Youtube reviewers are like knife brands, everyone has their favorite based on their subjective reasoning. Case closed. No need to denigrate "Nutnfancy" or people who enjoy his videos.

I used to watch him and I was able to get over a lot of his issues. I got over his inability to open a knife without a massive wrist flick, I got over his silly obsession with jimping and sub 4 ounce knives. I even got over his deluded notion that he holds some kind of sway in a multi-billion dollar industry with knife reviews that average less than 20,000 views.

I stopped putting any stock in his opinion after the Sebenza review.

I flat out stopped watching after his whole, buy a fake Hinderer from China to stick it to Rick and ZT for overcharging. Then instead of sticking by his guns, he quickly backtracked, pulled the video and tried to make up some lame excuse about how the video was misunderstood.

I'd rather watch a fat man in spandex shorts cut hog carcasses in half

I am going to keep a note in my phone so I can copy and paste a canned response every time one of these threads appears.

All of the nutin threads were getting moved. Some to W&C, and then some to a single thread in Feedback.

I'm not about to say what I think about him in the General forum.

Why is this so important to people to see what others think of some knife reviewer on youtube? Can't you come up with your own opinion? Should we tell you how your butt looks in your jeans next? Grow a pair and learn to be a man for Christ's sake.

calling him a mall-ninja doesn't really reflect his service time, I come across waaaayyyy to many service men & women who fall victim to the "tatcial" and hard use role knives. ya I honor his time in service & what he has done, but cheese16 I was in the same boat as you about a month ago & all i can say is if you like burning 40 mins on 1 vid great go for it, I personally just listen o the specs & then mute him and do my own visual inspection of the blade for 2mins and move on

Well, keep it clean. It is in FEEDBACK now. Courtesy is a requirement, whatever you think of his reviews.

Well you are Bugout Bill

He likes jimping.....and has Wizard of Oz issues.....but he likes FFG

Hes not gonna win an Oscar anytime soon but at least we have someone out there willing to take the time and review knives and other weapons and stuff. I ve found many of his reviews helpful! I think hes on that show where they chase tornadoes!?

He was really good 4-5 years ago and I really enjoyed his reviews (Leek, Mini-Barrage, etc). He kept it short and to the point.

Now he just rambles on and on with unnecessary stuff.

He talks with a pompous air, that reminded you of the know-it-all kid in your class. He's a little impolite at times, during his videos with Sal, ZT/Kershaw or other manufacturers and that really annoyed me.

Makes me wonder why he only covered CRKT for 2013 SHOT Show, perhaps they didn't allow him?

Yes I do watch his videos but only some especially if its a knife I really want to know more about, but I hate myself after watching it!

I guess Nutnfancy is to the knife community as Jersey Shore is to the Television community.

excellent reference to CS my friend !!!!!

Thank you sir! I was going to include a "meat filled boot" reference but thought that might be a bit much. I just love saying "meat filled boot" and even get a little tingle typing it.
