Nutnfancy's take on the Junglas

I bet he wanted his Junglas for free too. :D

I must say the first 3 minutes were pretty well put together. He is getting good at what he is doing, and the tone is more tolerable.

Still stopped at 2:45, I make my own knife decisions based on what I think I know. The Smachet is becoming the exception to that (thanks to Bladeforums), I have overlooked the design for too long.

Ok, I watched the first 30 seconds. My old cheap ass machete would have had that tree down in half the time. Seriously. Buy a Junglas if you wanna be the coolest looking guy on your street. But a machete if you really want to get some work done :D

Very ignorant question here, but the North East isn't machete country! I imagine a 'chete binding with trees/limbs. Am I way off? Thanks!

We think of machetes as only good for slashing soft vegetation, but that is not true. They can chop very well, and with the proper technique, binding is not a problem, especially with a good convex grind on them. The only reason our ancesters didn't use them in settling our woodlands was that the manufacturing techniques for making such long steel blades affordable did not exist. I won't say that a machete will out chop a skilled axe man, but they chop well enough for camping and survival purposes. And they are much easier to use for me than an axe.

+1

A properly sharpened machete is a great tool in the woods.

Yea I'm another who likes long videos as long as they keep my attention. Many reviewers are so brief that they leave out much more than could be said of the product they are reviewing.

Most sit and watch TV a few hours a day, so watching a long review isn't really any different. :)

What I think some reviewers are like...

Here is my knife

It's really good. I like it.

It made (insert steel here)

Yep you should buy it because it's good

OK thanks for watching my review!

They tell you stuff without really telling you much at all.

I can't sit through most of his videos. Gawd bless the guy, he is doing the good work for the knife and gun community no doubt and I envy the time he has to do it and the cash outlay he has to do it, but his mannerisms drive me to near the point of murder.

He does not own most of the knives he reviews he gets them sent to him from a few knife stores for review.

Yea, for the table top reviews, but from what I understand he personally purchases all the knives that he does "use" reviews on.

Granted, the majority are table top but even the small percentage that are "use" reviews represent more than I could afford to put to it.

with all the discussion about the review in here you could've watched it 4 times ;)

i'm playing safe and not watching it or caring.

And that would be accurate

I need a sarcasm font. The Mike being a subscriber part was supposed to be a joke.

And also, he does buy a lot of that stuff to review and sells a lot of it as well. You can actually buy some of the gear he's tested on one of his buddy's online stores.

I, for one, like his reviews.

He could cut the time down by not having a music video of his adventures at the beginning, and not having to preempt the commenters cutting him down.

What I like is he gives reasons for why he does or doesn't like things. I often disagree with him (especially about axes), but at least he has a reason, whereas most Tubers seem to pull their opinion from thin air.

I am new to knives as a whole and am learning what is the big difference between a $20 knife and a $100 knife but this really shocks me. I have never seen a manufacturer be that blunt and honest even if it is their own product they are talking about. I have an ESEE 4 and looking at another in the ESEE line and this really makes you stand apart to me. BTW, I am looking for a good machete as well to get through the woods of the midwest so Tramontina might not be for me.

He buys them for when he goes in the mountains where he uses to do what he needs to do.

He's an online knife and gun reviewer. Reviews are what he "needs to do".

He's got somewhere over 700 videos reviewing gear. He's transended the level of "user who makes review videos" and gone well into the level of "reviewer that buys his own knives".

I appreciate the time he spends and I think his videos are welcome addition to anyone considering a purchase.

Stick around.:D

A tramontina is an great choice. They're my personal favorite. Machetes are cheap tools. If someone is charging alot for it, it doesn't really mean it's any better.

ESEE sells an expensive machete. Jeff has called it overpriced himself. You can get the same machete with a plastic handle and a standard "utility" edge for around $12 stateside. We have Rowen put an uber quality handle and convex edge on them jacking up the price. If that's worth it to you or not is a personal decision.

I used to be able to buy Trams at Ampride (farmer's co-op) - now they sell the cheap chinese crap.
I've used a machete on a lot of different types of hardwood, and it does a good job on green wood. dry trees still call for a saw. (bow or chain)

Stick around.:D

I was looking at the high end of $50 at a Condor. I can't believe machetes are so cheap and will do the same job a lot of larger knives that cost a lot more. Like I said I am new to knives so all input is greatly appreciated.

LoL .. I thought my love and use for the machete was because im of Cuban blood. Glad to know i may just have some common sense lmao , i make my4yr old watch the long knife review and give me his summation and if he says that the knife was righteous it goes on a want list lol. God i have add.
