NW Lincoln Jack Picture Thread

All this talk about heavy pull kinda makes me regret not grabbing one! One of the reasons I didn’t pick one up is my Northwoods other than my Madison have light pulls, fine on the Broadway and Michigan with their wharncliffe blades and the way I tend to use them, but my Hawthorne is a clip and while it hasn’t bit me yet, I’ve had the blade start to close on me a couple times when piercing a package or cardboard. I guess it’s because I came to the traditional world after getting used to modern locking knives, and most of what I own have a similar blade profile to a clip or spear but of course lock so the angle I might pierce something with them doesn’t matter. Nowadays I rarely use, (but usually still carry) a modern locking folder, and almost exclusively use a slip-joint so I should just learn to adjust but instead typically use a slippy with a stiff spring.

well my modded 77 clipped a chunk of skin of my thumb the other day due to it being softer than usual because of the mod. (there was alcohol consumption prior) but its subtle when it came to these lincoln jacks. its very subtle. not substantially heavier as I got a 15 in orange bone the other day to compare. well i took out the hoard and it felt slightly heavier. could just be me

Problem is “pull” is so subjective as is “pinchable”. Size of hands, arthritis, thick nails, build tolerances from knife to knife. Heck I’ve got a couple that are hard to open before a cup of coffee then seem no problem at all!

I missed these when they dropped but managed to score this one on the exchange. Really is a well done knife.
The pull is just about right, its a firm pull but not a nail breaker by a long shot i'd rate it at a 6-7 out of 10 for pull.
I am able to pinch it open but I would not recommend it to someone looking for a pinchable blade as I find it much easier just to use the nail nick to open this one.

precisely, some one elses 9 might be your 5, and your 7 might be someones 4.

Precisely how I find the pull on mine. Good score p&g! Nice knife, great pic!

Thanks Waynorth. Yes, I bought three. I'm really liking the black and white giraffe bone so the two mammoths will probably have new homes someday.
-Caleb.

Got my Blue Denim a couple days ago. Had to get it from the secondary as I missed the drop...

Caleb, please do let me know if you decide to let go of those Mammoths.. Thanks!

Question from a noob. Seller on ebay says this is mammoth bark on this LJ. I know all natural materials will vary ib appearance, but can anyone confirm if this is how mammoth can look? Specifically wondering about the striations going across it. Thanks!

There’s something wrong there no doubt. Looks like a micarta or use to be but if it’s mammoth which I highly doubt I would still pass and not look back .

It does look like mammoth to me. Maybe a photographic anomaly?

The lines look to cymetrical. If it is mammoth it’s the ugliest covers I’ve ever seen lol .Looks like paint splash marks in some areas .
That being said it could be a very poor photo/error

Interesting. The auction was slated to end tonight, and now the I can't find the listing up on ebay at all anymore.

Oh well, Knives Ship Free sent out an email blast at 0730 this morning about the last Chris Reeve's that will ever be had with mammoth going up for sale. They also happen to have Basketweave Damascus blades. I managed to pickup a Small Sebenza 21with Mammoth Ivory inlays. The Larges were already sold and there was a Mnandi with Mammoth Bark. I called KSF about an hour ago to inquire as to how many of what they actually had for sale when the email when out. They stated they had a total of 6 knives. 2 large 21, 2 small 21, 2 mnandi. It's my first Reeve knife so I'm happy with it.

Yep, I went on there looking for the large 21 also. Couldn't find it, so I figured the small 21 would be an adequate 1st CR knife.

I'm hoping that when it arrives I'll like it as I've never held a small one before. If I dont, I may have to get rid of it right away.
