Yeah, I found a couple of things interesting about the new Strider folder:

1 - having both the hole and the thumbstud seemed redundant; if you like a hole than all the thumbstud does for you is gte stuck on your clothes, and

2 - that oblong hole looks mysteriously like Tom Mayo's TnT series holes(!?)

I think that is one sweet folder  . Might have to get one to hold me over until the Fusion/Fallout Folder from Jerry is available ;) :D .

RE: the Strider... I'm not sure as I have not seen one in person but I don't think those as "opening thumbstuds" as much as "blade stops". I could be wrond but they look as if they butt right up to the frame

A HOLE

It doesn't get in the way and it can be used left or right handed.

I love the Mayo holes.
Easy to grab, use and yes, you can hole on to it and flip the hand down to open the knife if need be.

That's a very cool looking knife. Clever idea on using both the hole and the stud. Is that titanium or steel on the handle? Very cool whatever it is. The Strider guys have out done themselves on this one! How long is the blade? How long is the handle? Why am I asking these questions on the Busse forum? Where's my beer? What's my name?

Jerry;)

Make mine with the hole. If I could have both that would be great. Make the thumb stud removeable so that if you want you can take it off you could. PLEASE use a slot screw head (ala Emerson's pivot) or phillips. If it doubled as a blade stop that would be great. Also, I'm hoping that the blade will be heavy enough to facilitate wrist snap openings (like Camillu Cuda's and other folders) although I don't know if that is a possible with a frame lock (if that is what it is). I'd like to see a lock that is super stong and keeps your fingers out of the blade path and a clip that flips.

Jerry, just think of all the money you'll make selling us INFI Junkies replacement thumbstuds, after we take it off and forget where we put it:D. I fear the 3-6 week wait for an Busse INFI thumbstud. Make them and we will buy them....

Not to send this down a wrong path but here is a spine shot of the Strider SNG (Thanks to Eric@USN) showing the studs used as the only blade stop pins.

I'm not 100% sure I like this option over the more traditional internal blade stop pin.

As to blade hole shape I do prefer the round 9/16" hole over the other shapes I've used. The round hole just seems to be smoother and the 9/16" size provides a large enough opening for large and gloved finger/thumb use. Just my two cents...

I think an opening hole would be in keeping with the Busse philosophy of KISS. I'm for the hole.

Roger that.

Why don't you thread the hole. This way you could make the thumb stud optional or removable, and it could be attached on either side for lefties or righties. The bottom, top or both sides of the stud could be hexed. Think out of the box.

Can the hole at least have the "hood" some spydercos have? I voted for the stud but am carrying a hole knife currently. I haven't gotten the hang of opening with the hole alone and not flicking my wrist too. With studs I don't need to flick. I don't think a low profile stud like Jerry suggested would have any problem with getting caught on anything. As long as there's no sharp edges. If anything, some holed blades with a big hump on the back are uncomfortable.

The hole part of the blade does not have to be really large. You could also relieve pasrt fo the handles in the area of the hole and it would also, depending upon shape and location, made a nice finger groove of sorts for additonal security and an overall more comfortable grip.

Hole, if the blade won't break above it.
With a hole you can use and enjoy the whole (blade) :)
Just look at the Viele Wasp by CRKT. Premium quality materials and a useless blade. It was a great deception. I sold it. Look at the Spydie Viele. You wil see what I mean.
If you're a right hand user, but you're in an emergency situation or you're better hand is injured, you can handle the folder more easily if it's got a hole. (Eg.: with your thumb or grasp the hole between your thumb and forefinger and so on...)
The wave pattern is a very useful thing and makes the blade extremely fast - if you need it. I like it on my Emerson SOCFK1A
If you prefer stud, place it (on the blade) in the nearest possible place to the handle .
I've got a couple of good knives, but nowadays I carry the Spyderco Military, G-10 Police or Starmate the most (in this order), because they're light, strong knives and have got those practical holes :D
In the night I go with two blades: Military SE AND MOD Razorback SE black blade or Emerson SOCFK or Commander SE/BB. Or go with the Emerson and a Civilian. One for use, one for self defence. That's for understanding the concept. Hope it helped a little.

Anyway, your knives are good, so: stay sharp. The Doc. :D

I would rather see a flipper. Lot's faster at least for me. Between the stud or the hole I would go with the hole. Use the same size as the mili as was suggested.

Regards,

Tom Carey

What about neither?

As Nimrod said maybe just a depression in the blade, light grooves along the spine, etc. If there is enough room to get your thumb on the blade you probably don't need a stud or hole(as long as the blade isn't super tight)

I know CRK's Mnandi just has a nail nick but can still easily be opened one-handed. This also makes it look slightly less tactical.

Hole, please. :) Most thumbstuds seem to be part of a conspiracy to make me cut myself..........

I have tried both a thumb stud and round hole, and I much prefer the round hole (AFCK style); I really do not like the non-round holes. Also, no blade hump and a large cutout in the handle for the index finger work well with the round hole on the AFCK (the large cutout provides a very secure grip). The grooves on top at the end of the AFCK blade provide an excellent rest for the thumb.
