HOLE, definitely the hole...no extra parts.

OK, this has distracted me long enough from figuring out the other Busse to buy this month...

PD, SJ, NO, hmmm......... where is the advil.

I'm used to studs.....
I don't like it much when a blade design has been deformed to accomadate a hole, and I'm sorry to say that a larger hole means a larger deformation. I actually like thumb studs that also act as a blade stop, double up on utility of design. The comments on the possiblities of pinching, not with standing.

Studs, definately....

Jerry:
Would you consider using a toggle style thumb-stud in your design, similar to the Joe Pardue knives?

Personally, I prefer a smooth working surface on my blades, without the intrusion of the conventional thumb-stud. Thumb-hole openers offer a nice clear working surface on a blade, however, I think a thumb-hole weakens the blade strength if it gets sideways torque. So the toggle-style thumb-stud gives me the best of both; opening/closing convenience and unobstructed working surface.

What'dya think?

HOLE!

And not no weeny little hole either. Make it big enough to use with gloves on and I will be one happy camper (get it.. gloves.. camper..).

Me so funny. :p

I actually like the feel of a stud better, but I've lost control of them when wearing gloves. Holes are positive, even if ugly. My preference would be for a scallop, as is on my pocket knife:

...but that wasn't a listed option, so I'll say hole.

I think a stud would be nice. Thats what I thought about when imagined what a folder might look like.

We will be counting "hanging chads" !!! ;)

Jerry

Jerry, My chad is all tucked away, so hopefully my vote will count.
;) I'd prefer a stud, but will go along with the majority. As long as it's INFI, with the best locking system available, you know I'm on board!!

New to the forum. What will this knife be used for? Is it going to be a combat folder (is there such a thingy) or a gentleman's whittler? I guess it's use should determine how it is built. A hole might weaken a combat type blade. Thumb studs will hangup on equipment and clothing, including gloves. Hinges are always weak. Anyone have experience with gloves (heavy & light) with folders? Your thoughts would be good to hear.

I vote neither. Both designs have their pros and cons. There should be no cons. Enough of the blade should be available to "flip" or to grasp with the other hand (gloves may not work, get another knife). Lockup mechanism will have to be the stongest and best (most positive) if this is to be a "combat folder". Closing will have to be a two handed affair. This will keep blade edge snap to a minimum. A better hinge design would be great to increase strength. A folder will have limits that need to be recognized.

What about a "button" hinge like on a ratchet? Push the button, the blade falls out. Release the button, the blade is locked up like a bolt cam on a rifle.

Forget it... just rambling

Oh well.... it is obvious I know nothing about knives. That is why I am here :footinmou

How about a combat bottle/can opener (water, sprite, & kool-aid bottle's for Mormons of course).

Uh-oh, how'd I get here?

Excuse me... :footinmou

Go with the hole. My gerber knife with hole has never failed me. :)

It's quite trivial to open. I loves it.

THUMB STUD IS THE ONLY WAY TO GO ON A COMBAT KNIFE
TAKE LOOK AT THE STRIDER A/R FOLDER

Oh come one guys!!!! Blade holes......YUUUUCCCKKK!!!
and
THUMB STUD IS THE ONLY WAY TO GO ON A COMBAT KNIFE

Finally somebody's talking some sense!!! THUMB STUD

Come on, we're talking about a BUSSE you won't hurt it by flipping it open! Maybe you'll need to get it past a ball detent first to be able to flip it open with less force, but a stud does that better and more reliably than a hole and without compromising the strength of the blade
