Odd and unique shop tools

I have an idea for a unique knifemakers thread. My suggestion is that we one at a time list our oddest shop tool and it's use. Post an odd or unique tool that you use on a regular basis in making knives. Then everyone can try and guess what you use the tool for. Whoever guesses it correctly is up next and posts their odd or unique tool, for another round of guessing. I suggest we only have guessing on one tool at a time. It can be anything in your shop that you use. A tool, or a consumable. Anything. I think it will be helpful in learning new ways to perform different tasks in the shop, as we share our little gimmicks.

I'll kick this off with the odd tool that I use. An everyday Q-Tip. I use them quite often for three different things on my knives. The person who gets all of them, is up next with their odd or unique tool.

Note** New rule to this is that One Tool, One Use for that tool, per a suggestion from Mr. Anderson. I think it's a great suggestion, by the way!

Applying epoxy and cleaning epoxy off the knife near the handle after glue up. Good guess right?

Good guesses so far, but none of them is correct. Q-tips leave fuzz behind when cleaning up epoxy, and I've found that they don't clean all of it up. They just add some reinforcement to what epoxy is left behind, making it even harder to remove later.

It is promisingly long lasting thread, thanks for that Scott...

My guess:
Cleaning excess epoxy and electro-etching.... (at least I use them for these purposes)

for cleaning out hard to reach places like guard slots and for applying cold blue.

Wow. You just reminded me of a third thing I use them for. I just haven't used cold blue in soooooooo long, that I had forgotten. So, there are three things, that I use them for, with applying cold blue as one of them.

So, this is a three part answer. Whoever gets the other two and types in cold blue with them, will be our next contestant on the "What is my odd and unique tool used for" show!

Applying mustard in spots for a speckled patina?

Ahhhhhhhhhhh....Two out of three! For cold blue and mustard application. Whoever gets the last one and adds these two to their reply is up next!

By the way, I've used my finger tip to apply mustard, but like the look better when I use a Q-Tip to apply it.

Don't you think just guessing "three" proceedures you use it for is asking a little too much?
We could probably come up with a hundred different things to do with a Q-tip, and you're asking that one person guess the exact same three that you have in mind.

One tool - one purpose?

Good point! I've edited the original post to take into account your suggestion. I take your advice and for the best response yet, I ask you to take the honor of the next odd or unique tool. I pass the torch to you. That is, of course, if you wish to accept.

by the way, the third was similar to the first two. I use it to touch up damascus with my etchent when I have a little scuff.
