Of all the assisted opening folders you have, which one has the best "thwack" when

Well, I don't have it anymore since I traded it, but it would have had to have been the Benchmade 790 Subrosa.

The fastest opening AO I've seen is my little Clash. It flies open and gives a good solid "thwack" when it locks.

My Tyrades and ZT 0300 and 0301 seem to open leisurely by comparison, even though the do give a good solid "thwack" when they lock up.

The same with the Needs Work, Blur, and Random Task II.

Kershaw Mini-Cyclone and Needs Work: both make their presence known when opened.

The Barrage I had opened hard as heck, that combined with very slick handles made it dangerous for me to open lol. I had to get rid of it after the 4th time it flew outta my hand when I opened it...:(

Manual opening, but the CS Lawman....the triad lock sounds like a freakin safe slamming shut when it opens!

I think the CRKT Badger that's on display at my store actually has the best spring. Unfortunately the Demo model (dull blade) has a way stronger spring than the real one. It's disappointing.

The best "thwack" would actually go to two non assisted Gerber knives. The Gerber Icon and the Gerber Applegate have the most authoritative liner locks I've ever handled.

Why have I not seen this Kershaw?!? I think I'll put that on my Christmas list...

I think it's been discontinued, although you can find lots of them around still. It's a good knife: very solid, good ergos, on/off switch for the AO (can be a manual knife), and great blade grind. The only thing that really sucks is the thumbstuds. It's hard to get a good purchase on it when you're trying to open the knife either manually or with the AO. This is a flipper knife.

And as I said, the AO opening is very powerful.

BM 585.For my ZT301 that was sluggish,I found bending the torsion bar a bit longer made a vast improvement. It now opens easily and extremely smooth using either the thumbstud or flipper with a good loud snap.

But why scare the sheeple? A lot of them are the a-holes in office that make the rules.

I don't understand the fascination at all, and would never whip out a "switch blade" to help someone. When my knife comes out it is decidedly low key, and works like magic. Folks don't even understander how something just parted with the touch of my finger.

A lot of knife-men with consummate etiquette and class prefer this to flashy/noisy... I hate to say juvenile behavior, but IMHO, it's close.

Yes, I have one. No, I don't ever use it.

Just my $.02.

Sheeple, schmeeple.

This isn't a thread about scaring anyone. It's about the coolest thwack when opening an AO knife.

It's a guy thing. Akin to which gun makes the biggest bang or boom. In billiards, the explosive power of a world class breaker inspires awe. There's a certain satisfying sound when a folder, AO or manual, thwacks open. For quiet opening, there are plenty of knives, of which I possess more than a few. I've yet to hear an AO that is better than my BM Apparition 670. IMHO, it's better than the Barage. Why is it better? I don't really know, but it is what it is. There's probably an optimum combination of spring strength with blade shape and weight and materials used in the rest of the knife that produces the incredible sound, the thwack that is simply a joy to behold. Don't open such a knife in the presence of those likely to be turned off, intimidated or scared, as that is not pruductive of warm and fuzzy feelings...
