Had my daily carry backpack stolen out of my Jeep last night. Not too happy at the moment. Mainly a blow to the heart, not the wallet so much. My fault I suppose for leaving it unlocked. I'll be locking my Jeep from now on no matter where I am. Gonna stake out the neighborhood tonight in hopes the little punk comes back for round two.

that totally bites.

worst part is? it's probably one of your next door neighbors.

guy i know came out of his building to find his rear hatch smashed in, and the doors open, car was cleaned out good. he also found a jacket the kid left behind when he got stuck crawling from the hatch to the front. name on tag matched a name on mail box. knocks on door, mom answers. shows jacket. yup, that's her kids. "could you come outside and see where i found it". mom is mortified. they go into the kid's room, and there's all the stuff, piled proudly on the bed, a heist before school. couple things missing. guy agrees to NOT press charges if all stuff is returned or paid for, and all damages fixed. when kid comes home, there are two VERY angry parents waiting for him. i hear they practically strip searched him, and then his room, and found ALL kinds of stuff. nice.

similarly, another friend had his car broken into while it sat in his driveway. he figured he'd go door to door for a little distance, say hi to the neighbors, tell them what happened, ask if they saw anything, warn them. that kinda thing. well, by door 2-3 twit opens up the door, and there behind him on the floor is his stuff. conversation ensued. don't recall if the cops were involved.

short form? thieves of opportunity are lazy frakkers, and probably live nearby.

keep an eye out for your backpack/stuff. talk to some neighbors, esp if they have kids. if the adults are not frakkers too, they will note their kid might have stuff he shouldn't. i'd call the cops too for potential, in case a kid was caught with goodies (i had that happen to me, and got my stuff back, kids were not smart and did a lot of raiding that night, and got caught, instead of stopping while ahead)

Thanks guys! I am just about sick over it. I'm waiting to get outta work and have already told the gf I ain't coming to bed tonight. Gonna hunker in the bushes with the nvgs and a thermos of coffee/jack.

Damn murph. That sucks. I'm so paranoid with mine because of recent local break ins. What was in the pack if you don't mind me asking?

u gotta closeup of this firesteel mod?

You're tracking. But I took it so I'm postin' it. :D

Exactly what I was thinking Bladite! I'm making fliers tonight and have the gf's kids door to door them tomorrow in hopes that it's noticed by a parent that thinks their kid just bought the pack off a friend.

Can I come over and play? We can spot him a hammer.

Damn bad luck there Murph. That kind of stuff really gets you in the pit of the stomach. Hate it for you.

Well unfortunately a few things that are irreplaceable. Pix of my daughter I had recently laminated for my tool box at work, the newspaper clipping of my brother's obituary. Then stuff that is just replaced with cash. A few knives, my mug/cup, Guyot bottle, etc. I'm hoping to find most of it in a local dumpster or something tomorrow. I highly doubt anything other than my headlamp, flashlight and sharp stuff will be worth anything to the cretin.

that sucks! I feel for you murph. That is exactly why I dont carry my pack with me day to day. I work at a big outdoor store and importunately we are connected to a mall. Lots of car breakins occur here so I dont want to risk leaving my stuff in there. And I cant bring it inside so what are ya going to do?? I only live 3 miles from work so if anything were to happen im not far.

This is actually a good technique. When I used to work for ups, I would get up at 2am. One morning my car alarm went off so I ran out side wielding a Louisville slugger only to find an empty street with a few car doors ajar. My stepdads CDs and head unit were stolen though and my alarm scared em off when they got to my car. The next day I confronted a neighborhood girl who's boyfriend and friends were always walking about when I would leave for work. I made it clear that if I found out that they took my stepdads stuff, that things weren't going to go well. The next morning my stepdads CDs case and headunit were sitting on our newspaper. Threatening to kick in some teeth is a good motivator.

Well today is a very sad day for me. I just sold my '71 Chevy Pickup truck. :(:(:(
I bought that damn thing not running and wrong parts on it, and sold it running strong almost 100% complete.

She was a fine truck and she will be missed by all of us here in the Crazy hours (that's kinda funny right there :)) :(:(:(

I hope your right Clich. I've always believed in the persuasive powers of violence. My gf's niece is in highschool and believes she may know who did it. Apparently the little snot has quite the rap sheet. I'm also issuing a reward in hopes the tosser steps forward. If it's returned, no harm no foul, but if I find it before then, who knows.

rewards work.

offer a higher reward if a kid narcs on him :)

make it clear in the reward you know who it is though, and you want him to step forward, and return the stuff, then if he does, pile it on some more ;> make him reake the yard ;)

OTHERwise, as you say, make it clear you will press charges, make sure his parents know, his teachers, the community, and ... yeah.

i caught a kid spitting on my car this Summer. no big thing, but he saw me watching him, and gave me the finger. nice. late AM so i was downstairs and knocking on his mom's door before he could run around the back and sneak in. just as i'm talking to the mom, he slinks in behind her, because she was ABOUT to say "he's asleep in his room", and she sees him, and is like "oh, dammit, you are a dead man (to the kid)". she makes the kid fill a bucket with warm water, three times, to rinse my car off to my satisfaction. then i get to hear he run the kid down, and his litany of mistakes, and how he's going to live with his Dad for the Summer, and possibly never come back here. they moved out a month ago. yay. now, i'm waiting for one of the shits to come back and slash my tyres. that will not go well, esp if i catch them again.

stupid punk kids just seem to be more prevalent lately. we had a whole rash of breakins, kids stealing $50 gps, and whatever they could snag in a car, they drop it in a bag, and run into the woods, stash it, and go home. the police apparently picked up on this, and sometimes find the stuff, or catch the kids still in the woods, or confront them on the way home. guess it's a lot of bored kids, or kids from cities being forced to move to the sticks where it's cheap, and they bring their bad ways with them.

i guess with the "kids can't post on facebook about how dumb their 'rents are, and then have their dad's shoot their laptops" reaction, kids think they can do anything with no consequences. one young lady i know of had her bed room door removed for her six month grounding. room cleaned out. 3 changes of clothes. one mattress. one comb. one study area. pretty much nothing else. she got the hint.

thanks TW...that looks like a quite handy/cheap way/easy way to attach a ferro rod for sure. Props to u for the pic effort and Props to Warrior for the legwork LOL

Odd thing, Im a hair from 30, lived all over the place from large towns to hicktowns to rural NOtowns to huge city and I have only had one thing stolen from me. was in a tiny town, someone stole a brand-new CoffeePot from my truck. Dunno why they took a coffeepot but...they did.

Spent a year in San Diego and never had a problem...go figure.

Yeah, never an issue till now really. It's just odd that with all the other stuff in my Jeep that's all they took. I've done the door removal trick to a kid before, he didn't enjoy it.

Murph that happened to me once. I found 75% of my stuff in the trash a few blocks away. Sorry to hear that and I hope you get it sorted out.

Seriously guys, I appreciate the support! It'd still be funny to unleash Dubz in the murder harness.
