I have a few X-men that are under plastic, especially the one where Phoenix dies and the whole Hellfire series; those might be worth selling but I just can't bring myself to.

Two things.

1.) Those story arcs have been done so many times, I literally could not tell which issues you are referencing, because all X-Men does is reuse the same 20 story arcs over and over and over. I had a friend quit comics for like 5 years, comes back, picks up an issue, and the first words out of his mouth were "I swear to all that is holy I have read this story ten times now. Thank you Marvel for convincing me that quitting comics was a good idea and killing off the industry a little slower than what you managed in the 90's."

2.) The 90's was terrible for comics. If any of your comics were from the 90's, you should burn them*. If they were a "collectors edition" or something along those lines and were wrapped in plastic, you need to take them out of the plastic, because the plastic used for all those comics literally destroys the comic inside. The plastic was high acidity and not archival grade, and was the absolute worst choice for all of those "collector" comics they made back in the day. Once you get them out though they are fine, aside from being as far from collectible as possible. Back when Marvel was actively trying to destroy the comic book industry for all time they over-inflated production and flooded the market with "hard to find" comics that were more common than herpes on a New York streetwalker, and as a result almost killed the industry for good. Thanks to that, we have a ridiculous amount of comics from the 90's, and almost every one of them is worth less than the paper it is printed on. (Provided of course the paper is still actually paper and not a pile of dust in a "collectors" bag.

And don't even get me started on "holographic" and "foil" covers...

I thought The W-D was Graphic Novels not Comic Books?

I wouldn't know, but I was under the impression it was a big distinction among nerds LOL

Only ashamed nerds call them graphic novels, to the rest of us, secure in our manhood, they are, and will always be, comic books. Hell, I read comic books and right now, nearly a billion people are watching a TV show made about a comic book.

Talk about some super edgy, and bereft of life stories, the WD is one for the record books. Not many went as far as it did.

Derek, I'm talking early to mid 80's and it was the first time she died.

Haven't read comics in years, not up to date.

Marvel still blows DC out of the water though.

Never got into comics. Too busy dating models I guess :D. Jk of course. No I was more of a written word type of reader. And still am. I like large epic novels. Although the action figure collection I had as a kid was enormous. My imagination was epic. And so were the battles that ensued in my room. I wish I still had all of em still in their boxes. Man the beckers I could buy

What kinda books you read clich? I've got a pretty massive sci-fi/fantasy/military fic collection. If your tastes overlap at all, would love to trade recommendations (if you're interested).

I read it all. Some of my favorites across the board are like a farewell to arms, john dies at the end, the blood of kings trilogy is some good stuff, the bob swagger series, Jonathan strange and Mr. Norrel, the hangman's daughter, we are monsters, choke, to name a few of the last ones I read.

I love literature. I actually have a book I've been writing off and on for while

I'm teaching E how to upload from his phone. We also now have a BKT photo account, so he can upload and we can both post pics.

All best

Mr. B,

If that was posted in the "Tuesday" thread, you'd have most of us in joy-induced seizures ;)

CF and Clich,

Uh oh, you've opened a can of worms. Sci- Fi/ fantasy books throwdown!

Seriously though, what you guys read?

EDIT: I tried selling this on Craigslist, you guys want any of them? I haven't updated this after a few were given away/ sold though, so PM me what you want, and if I have it I'll send them over no charge.

Stephen Hunter is great. Love that series. Not too often you get to read fiction by a Pulitzer Prize winner, after all.

Thanks for the suggestions. Some of my favorites are the Codex Alera by Jim Butcher (6 book series), SW Republic Commando series by Karen Traviss, and I'm excited about the new Brandon Sanderson series. First book (Way of Kings) was possibly the best first book to a series that I have ever read. Also, Jack Coughlin's autobiography (Shooter) was a great read. Love sniper books, perhaps because I spent so long in that role in airsoft. I know, I know, kids with their toys.

Ah, you are doing mighty fine then sir.

As far as Marvel vs DC, once Disney bought Marvel, I canceled all my funny books, DC and Marvel alike. Don't touch 'em anymore. Frees up more money for knives too. ;)

I do still order the occasional action figure though. Discarding of childish things be damned! I like my toys. I do however always push comics as a great literary device for children learning to read. There is no better way for a child to learn how to read and practice than comic books. And I support my local comic shop. Mostly cause my buddy owns it, and I hang out down there a good bit.

Also, I am a sucker for Star Wars books, and have most of the 200+ on my phones e-reader thingamajig.

Edited to add, Robert Heinlein FTW! +1 like Thrillbilly said. Also, anything by Douglas Adams is gold in my opinion.
