not a fan of the sigma - and yes, i know they eventually fixed all the problems.
Unless you're getting an incredible killer deal on it, I'd check out the SD40 (M&P Lite) or the Sig P250 (I REALLY like the P250 compact!)

Its like 250 new with two mags. Im looking for a cheap pistol. Id love a 1911 but 300 is my ceiling unless the wife changes her mind about guns

If you are looking for cheap around $300. Right now you can find Dept trade in Glock 22 2gen .40 with 3 mags for $319.

that would be a killer price.
The lowest price I've seen recently on a decent bone stock 1911 was around the $350 mark - and that was a Rock Island.

yeh whats the word on rock island? crap? or one of those diamonds in the rough? Was also considing the hipoint 40 or 45 but i read they jam more than the grateful dead

Ive had most of those. The RIA was surprisingly very decent for the price. Good solid gun with no frills. In that price range my favorites would be Sig 225 P6 if you can find one and some of the EA guns. They are CZ copies for the most part but really well made.

P6 is a great pistol, but the price jumped on them to $450 a year ago.
the P250 compact is almost exactly the same size and thickness, but higher capacity due to the polymer frame and double stack mags.

Wow, I think I paid 250.00 for mine! Great gun anywho and I actually wanted a single stack for carry. Its my wifes gun now, Im still banging away on my worked over CZ75 compact. Ive had many many guns after the CZ but to me, its the best Ive ever owned. Ill get froggy sometimes and carry a Springfield 1911 or older Hi Power but for EDC status the CZ is perfect.

Id LOVE to have a springfield 1911. i think id fondle it more than my wife lol

They are nice Clich. Im fortunate to have a buddy thats a really gtood smith around here as well as a great kydex holster maker. I bought one of his personal guns that was built off a basic Springfield frame and slide. You cant go wrong with one of their less espensive guns and add what you want if anything as needed.

damn. All i got around here is mom and pop gun shops which have em for about 800 and a cabelas which doesnt give much of a price break. Not that i could afford one but its nice to dream. I was thinking about that S&W sigma just to hold me over. I dont have a pistol yet. a bunch of rifles and shotguns but no pistols

Clich, Have you thought about a smaller gun? Keltec p32, P3at, PF9, or ruger LCP. All of those can be had within you budget. I think if you get a sigma you'll quickly outgrow/get tired of it. One of those smaller ones you will want to keep even if you get a fullsize.

This is the one i want. im drooling on my keyboard

To be honest ive only looked at my local gun shop and their limited selection and what was in my price range. The sigma was about it, that and the hi point. And my buddy had a sigma once and said its a good starter pistol, since its cheap and comes in a 9 and 40. Do they have any problems?

buy a good used gun if you're on a budget, not a mediocre new gun.

save for a good 1911 that you won't want to swap later.

skip the plastic pistols if you want something that's pleasant to shoot.

That's my $0.06.

I don't have any experience with the sigmas. I have however settled for less than what I really wanted a few times. I always end up going after The thing I really wanted and losing money in the process. I have a LCP that gets a lot of pocket time because of the warmer climate here. If you get a pocket gun you'll likely keep it. They aren't as good for shooting, but they are pretty handy to have around. My lcp is surprisingly accurate, and I'll keep it indefinitely.

To throw a wrench in here, I had a Llama .45 once that was really reliable.

Oh yeah, and if you're on a budget, buy a .22 unless you NEED a pistol for self-defense.
It's also the best way to get the wife to like handguns since she'll enjoy shooting it too.

Hell, buy a .22 regardless of budget. You'll shoot it more and it's hella fun.

This is a smoking deal, That's dealer price though right? You'll usually get some night sights on these and they've been factory reconditioned. I've had several.
And I guess I'd just say get something of good quality and put a bunch of rounds down range, I feel like Night sights are very important to get on them and a good surefire or similiar light, not necessarily mounted to the pistol. Go to a firearms training school, You have no idea what you don't know until you've gone to a class or two.

And for wives, Ruger makes a Single action revolver called a "SingleSix", they love these but truth be told they're fun for anyone.

All good suggestions above. You WILL end up selling or trading out so if you can get a nice used gun from a good name it will be easier to sell. Most police trade in Glocks have alot of finish wear but the internals are really good because they dont get shot much. You cant beat an older Smith wheel gun either. = have a couple Model 19s and 10s that I picked up at pawn shops for under 300.00. Great guns, accurate, and dang sexy to look at IMO!

I was thinking of going the 22 route. but most likely the pistol i get will be the nightstand gun and an edc for some time. So, even though where i live i dont expect a break in, i still need something with enough first round stopping power for if the wife (heaven forbid) needs to drop somebody. Me im grabbing the pistol grip mossberg 500 if someone EVER breaks the threshold but she has no interest in getting knocked on her ass lol

god i feel like one of those schmucks in prac tac. forget my previous statement
