Being a pack snob and all :D do you notice any difference in quality between maxped and 5.11?

I've just a pack noobie but ya hear people squawk about these things every now and then, and it makes me wonder what's true/ fanboyism...

Well flexxx can prob answer this better than me because he has moved on to bigger and better kifaru type stuff, but heres my take: The maxped material feels heavier duty and the straps are well built, but the material can also feel fake and plasticy , the 5.11 feels more like well worn in denim and has better fit and finish, but the straps seem cheap to me, like they are well engineered but built cost effectively. In the end i think the 5.11 has more attention to organization and i like it alot. Im actually comparing it to a closer relative the falcon 2

I've been wondering about the snugpak stuff. They've got one model (I think it's the "stamina") that would make the right sized loadout pack. I need to upgrade my old Vaude guide pack.

Came home from the post office and this guy was eating dinner in my front yard....

Very cool bladite.

As for the maxpedition VS 5.11.
I personally would take 5.11, its more user friendly and seems to hold up just as good if not better then maxpedition.
Also 5.11 likes to listen to there customers and change there products to users specs, maxpedition don't give a shit and only wants money.
Clich said it pretty well.

Just buy Kifaru or Triple Aught Design and you will be good to go.

@Tradewater I would stick with the Vaude, they are also some damn nice packs (the price is awesome also) this is the pack I will get next for my 3 day http://www.vaude.com/epages/Vaude-d...ps/Vaude/Products/10902/SubProducts/109020100

Stay away from Snugpak, I have heard alot of bad stuff about there packs ripping easy and zipper problems.

i think i gave up on SKS, unless i find a clean yugo model with original wood... maybe someday.

saw some NICE mostly metal, no wood, yugo folding AKs M70 variant, $600... they're cool, PDWs for sure, just not terribly ACCURATE, and i'm all about that :D

https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=yugo m70

but then i remembered something about PTR-32s... mmm. oh yeah! thompson center barrels? oh yes.

well, back to dreaming.

and remember kids, birds of prey are protected species.

your little fluffy dog is not :)

Hmmmmm.... something like this?

sks.jpg

is that teak? pretty nonetheless...

all the SKS really needs is the murphy spring kit... and some legal tapco magazines... and some accuracy :)

some of the ptr-91 sniper configs are reputedly accurate to 1/2 moa

On another topic:
What can all you crazy survivalists tell me about propane generators?

In a power outage I want to be able to run:
1) well pump (intermittent)
2) furnace (oil) - we have a woodstove or two also
3) fridge (intermittent)
4) a circuit for maybe a CF light or two, cell chargers, internet hardware

forget the electric stove... One reason I'm thinking about propane generators is I can also replace the electric stove with a propane unit and run both off the same large tank.
