Todd, don't go through the "marketplace" they are all rude and they jack up the prices so they can get the federal funding. This new bill is total crap! Personally I just take the penalty for not having insurance but I'm also younger, and single, with no kids. It makes a huge difference.

Chris, do NOT start second guessing and blaming yourself for missing "the signs" that is the worst thing you can do. Honor him for being your friend and for doing what he did but this was his decision and while selfish in the fact others have to deal with the consequences you can't put this in you.

Dres Unless you got one of those Eccentric Axes that Bladite posted a few pages ago, I think it should be in line, AT LEAST!

That's unreal. I didn't realize how incredibly expensive health insurance is. Hopefully something turns up.

Have you asked other full time makers what they do for health insurance? 1k a month is outrageous.

Yeah I have, fortunately for most of them they have isurance through there spouses. My wife is a business owner herself, her and her Mom have a daycare, they dont have/offer employee insurance and my wife is on my policy. so, screwed there.

Holy shit Todd. That is insane!

Its beyond insane, You cant comprehend the level of my frustration. For over two months Ive been looking for a alternative and everybody Ive talked to in passing says, "Oh, dont worry, there reasonable alternatives out there" But so far, nobody has been able to produce one. 1k a month is impossible for me. especially when you gotta pay over 12k worth of deductables before they actually pony up. I cant believe it. How is this not illegal, i have no idea. and then to be laughed at and hung up on. I would of loved to have been sitting across a desk from that guy and he acted like that, I would of ripped out his entrails with my bare hands.

Id say thats sound advice to Psyop cbear...... I agree.

As far as the marketplace insurance, How do you NOT go through the marketplace?

Suicide is something I know unfortunately. I had 3 friends of various closeness all commit suicide in one year, and have had more commit or attempt.

Todd, talk to an insurance broker. They have been around for a lot longer than the marketplace was and they actually try to help.

How is this acceptable, WTF, is going on that insurance companies became these... Gods that they think they are. Im so pissed I could scream.

I assure you, that is nothing new. Don't ask me how I know, 'cause this ain't the right forum for political stuff. It's going to be several years before this health insurance thing shakes out... all I can say, is don't get sick.

In other news... I have a little teaser for you crazy cats... took a couple hours this afternoon and slapped together something I've been pondering for quite some time... all I have to say right now is, it's called "The SnarkFinger".

;)

I took what Cbear said and started digging out of my own curiosity and partially since my father is self employed and could benefit here. I think I found a way to find a broker nearby - The link is to a large professional organization's site. It has a tool to search for a broker in your area. NAHU - Consumer Information - Find an Agent

Haha! I'm sorry, all I can picture is a couple of guys out over a deer, "Dude, smell my SnarkFinger." - "No, man.... I'm not smelling that."

You can't not go through "the market place" because all plans are the same some just qualify for subsidy now. Found this out after shopping around for insurance for my mom. That sucks you've had such a bad experience with all the brokers. Strap an M-18 to your hip next time and maybe you'll get a discount :D

Haha! It wasn't 5 minutes in and she catches this fatty!

Well she ended up with a couple nice sized trout.
She was pumped!
We ditched the Barbie pole for one of those Zebco dock rods. There like 2 feet long and work great!
Mmmm...dinner!

Laugh if you will. Apparently, we know a different group of deer-hunters...

:p

I recently ordered a Wetterlings Bushman axe from and online retailer. When I got the axe the head was not in line with the handle. If I hold the head of the axe towards me with the edge facing up and look down the handle the edge is off to the left at least 1/4 of an inch.

Since this retailer has a 100% satisfaction guarantee I requested and was granted an exchange. Today I got the replacement in the mail. They sent me the exact same axe. I immediately got on the phone.

I explained the situation and the guy on the phone seemed a bit embarrassed about them sending back the same axe. He did grant me another shipping label for another exchange but he did put me on hold long enough to talk to someone "more knowledgeable about axes" and he told me the since the axe was hand made there would be slight variances with the axe including slight head imperfections.

Am I being too picky to expect the head of the axe at least be in line with the handle? Would you be upset by this scenario?

I am new to axes and I understand that there will be differences in every axe but this seems more like an improper hang.

I do not want to name the online retailer right now because they do seem willing to help me. Any advise would be a big help.

Jeremy

I would absolutely expect it to be properly hung and as close to perfect as is humanly possible. It's the critical issue with an axe or hatchet. If it's not hung right it will never feel right or perform well for you. I'd send it back fifty times if that's what it took. I don't know what's going on at Wetterlings lately. The older ones I have are perfect and compare with GB quality. Some of the new ones I've seen are pathetic.

Great pic Jonny!

Hey Todd, I know my wife also called the companies directly, like Aetna and Humana and got quotes directly from them.

Edit: I had said that we went though a broker earlier in the thread, I talked to my wife and she reminded me that we were going through him, but when we renewed this year she got a quote directly from Humana.. good luck man, it might take some work to find a good one, but it would be worth it if you can get into this new job and all..

Awesome pics; you need to tell she needs to be happier when fishing though lol.

I think I'll be upgrading my girls' Barbie rod this year as well. I'll look into the dock rods. Enjoy your dinner!

Looks like a good time johnny. I need to find somewhere to fish that has trout so I can try some once. I don't think there is anywhere close to me that has any though. I'll probably have to find some in Montana sometime when I'm out there.

@ Dresnor, I had a very similar problem with the Wetterlings Fine Forresters Axe. The bit was actually bent, and ground much more on one side than the other as a result. I got a Bushman instead, and it came in very good shape.
Wetterlings seems to be very hit or miss now.

great pics Jonny. my daughter wants a barbie fishing rod which i know is shite.... ive been holding off. i will have to check out that zebco.

Cold Steel shovel use for the day:

Splitting firewood. Apparently, the shape of the blade makes it flip like an axe on impact.

More to come. You're welcome. This thing has changed my life.
