Contractors just left after fixing a leak and doing some painting.. I go to inspect their work and there is paint on my flat screen TV, my DVD player, my knife display case, my dresser, bed, headboard, wife's Ipad case and some clothes. mostly just small white specs, but regardless im pissed. I painted houses for a year or so, its not that damn hard to tarp over every damn thing. And the messed up part is i asked them if they wanted help moving everything out the room before they started and they said no they were going to tarp over everything. Obviously they forgot to tarp over anything.

They left before i could inspect anything, they walked out while i was getting my son off the school bus..... I have taken close to 100 pictures..... And I have already called the landlord twice and left messages both times...

Not a happy camper right now.

Almost like you're trying to over compensate for something....

Yeah, like my lack of a apprentice lately. (sorry, you asked for it.)

Anyone know if its possible to turn off a headset without unplugging it?

I have a headset for skype, but it plugs into the computer tower that i have inside a box... Making it difficult to plug up and unplug after each use...

Im wondering if there is an easy way of just switching the sound from headset to speakers?

Buy or build a patch bay. (not sure if that's what computer guys call it, but that's what it's called in the PA/stereo world) It's basically a box that plugs into your outputs/inputs, and has a bunch of jacks (and sometimes level controls) for other speakers, headphones, mics, whatever. You can get em as simple or as complicated as you want...

Ill check em out!!

With one of those do you still have to plug them in and pull them out to enable/disable them? Or is it a button? or do you go through software to control it?

Thanks James

Just go into the control panel - sounds and change the output from the headphones... or you could do it like James said too.

So i was wondering what they tried to use to clean some of the paint off my TV, because its obvious they tried to clean some of it as i could smell it and see wipe marks... And now i see they left a can of liquid wrench silicon spray behind... I matched the smell..... they used that on my flat screen....

I dont think that was made for cleaning paint off electronics, and now i see some stuff online saying if any chemicals are used on the screen itself it will void the warranty.

Here is what the back looks like now, after they "cleaned" it...

And here is part of the screen.. Its hard to get the paint specs and smears and scratches in the picture without a glare but there are 2 or 3 pretty good scratches where they attempted to take paint off the screen itself.

Its not just my TV either. My bed, dressers, some clothes and more crap has paint dripped on it.

What would you do, or expect done, if you were in this same position?

That is jacked up! Someone needs to pay to clean that up... sry man, that company should be blacklisted.

Here is a pic of the Sound properties, you can see how I disable my headphones, but I still have my speaker output enabled..

Yea thats what i was trying before i asked, and now im really wondering why headphones dont show up for me.. yet they work.

I go to control panel, then sound, then the box pops up but only the speakers are shown where yours shows headphones too.

Maybe i need a driver, or driver update... I dont know what im saying but i seen it online HAHA

That is seriously messed up, ww.

Depending on the surface it's stuck to, you could use a plastic or metal scraper to pop the dots off once they're dry - but you shouldnt have to.
Acetone will remove it from most surfaces, but eats a lot of plastics - particularly acrylic. And will strip the finish off your furniture.
Denatured alcohol sometimes works, and is a "glass" cleaner - but I've not seen it recommended for flat screens.
The company that destroyed your stuff should be held responsible. If the landlord contracted them, not you, and they don't come through - I'd tell him I'm deducting the damage from my next several rent checks.
Like I said, Messed Up. Best of luck.

I'd be on a rampage ww. Thats just ridiculous!! I'd be asking for everything to be replaced. I can't see how that paint is gonna come off of anything without messing it up.

Thanks bud, and yea thats what im thinking.. They need to clean it the right way, replace it, or deduct the cost from my rent. The landlord is the one who sends them here. I just call her and she sends guys out when there is a problem. I use to get this really cool older gentleman that did great work, granted it took him a while, but id prefer the work takes longer and is done right. But now she sends these 2 guys that are only worried about leaving so they can go get some beer, not that im against beer at all..... But i am against idiots.

Im glad others would be equally pissed. Thats why i posted a couple pics... I wanted to make sure i wasnt over reacting and mad about something little... I do, do that sometimes.

I can hear them now.. Oh its just a little paint here and there... But i bet if i went to their home and dripped paint all over their stuff they'd be pissed as well.

That TV is just barely a year old.. And i paid an extra 100+ for a 3 year extended warranty that is now void. Im angry.

If they dont make it right ill look into a lawyer or something. Cant really afford one but ill look into something.

WW that's some bullshit bro. Because the contractors were hired by the landlord it is his/ her responsibility to replace your damaged items. 1) Should you dislike your landlord and ain't afraid about moving / finding another place you can withhold your rent until you see an equal value has been displaced. You must give the landlord notice and evidence before moving ahead with any action (potentially consult a local lawyer). Should the landlord disagree and try to evict you, you can then lawyer up and take them to small claims court. The judge will not make you pay the rent and will make the landlord pay for your damaged items but you will then need to find a new place. 2) advise the landlord of your damages and prove with evidence. Advise him if he does not pay for your damages you will be taking him / her to court. Then the ball is in their court... should he replace it great.. if not sue him and get your stuff replaced. They may not offer to renew the lease after but they cannot evict without a break in the lease agreement. 3) you document the damage, you clean it yourself with the proper equipment you make the landlord pay for your time / equipment and work out how he / she is going to pay you back. 4) you hire somebody to clean it for you properly then submit the bill to your landlord. If they fail to pay off to court you go.

Sorry bout your luck man. I hate sloppy people that don't take pride in their work.

Thanks TBL

I just got off the phone with the landlord an hour ago or so. She says she is on my side and mad about what happened as well. She said the contractors have not been paid for the work and before they get any money she is going to see what the contractor will compensate me out of his pocket since its his fault... There is more to this as well... Come to find out only 1 guy was hired to work in my home but he brought a long a helper that was NOT suppose to be working here with him, The landlord had no idea there was 2 guys here.... and the helper is the one that did that room... SO he was never suppose to be here in the first place.

She said it would probably only be 100-200 bucks compensation though, the TV cost around 500, but its about a year old.. She said since the TV still works and its just cosmetics they wouldnt be replacing the TV or anything. She acted like the paint on my clothes, bed, dresser, headboard and everywhere else was no big deal. She actually said you can still wear clothes with paint on them

I have no problem getting upset and loud with men, but i cant get rude with women. So i just said 100-200 doesnt cover the damage, and if i moved from here and left this place a mess yall would keep my entire security deposit, So i WILL be NEEDING compensation for my TV and would much prefer to not have to go to court to get it.

She said she would discuss this with the contractor and then the owner and let me know what they decide.

I cant afford to go to court or get a lawyer so i hope this works out OK. And i cant afford to move from here now, just to move again in a year or 2 when I move to Florida.

Im kind of stuck, if i piss her off too much she could make life more difficult here too i guess....
