Pretty dammed cool! I wonder if it has tweaked recipes due to the rationing?

It's supposed to. I read through the intro and some other interesting parts and need to take a look through the actual recipes, now. I've had my eye out for a copy for a long time, so I'm pretty excited about this.

It occurred to me that I've been praising the Bk9 as a capable knife of fine task but I'd never actually used it to do any small detail work.. So how would i know?

So, earlier i took my 9 out to wood I had split and did some quick feather sticking and notch carving before teaching my guitar class and heading of to judo.

In other words, it wasn't enough for any pics but i like it :)

It doesn't perform as well as my Mora but it works nicely and is 100x's easier to work than my Bk2.

Should my Mora fail, it will make an excellent knife not only to perform the task I've assigned to it but also fill the role of some of the more basic bushcraft type work effectively.

It's probably second best to my Mora out of any other knife that I own.

Better than a 4 inch drop point hunter I have, it surprisingly preforms as poorly as my 2 at such things.

Again, this is only the experience i have had, I feel like larger hands may be able to control the 2 better than I. For me, it's to wide of a handle which promotes a death grip when doing carving work which results in to much force being used either lobbing off the notch i just carved out removing all the curls from my feather stick, as well as fatigue.

I guess I'm gonna just have to give into the fact that I can't sharpen a knife worth a shit. Kind of hit and miss for me. Sometimes I do okay, but never great. I try to maintain the same angle. I'm actually very careful about it. I can't even get them sharp with a Lansky, haha. Sucks.

Sharpening is a combination of steady angle and appropriate pressure. It is pretty easy to use a little too much force and constantly round off the edge.

Also, it may be possible that your abrasives are dirty.

The ceramics I use work great, but they don't take long to get contaminated with metal dust, and not work for shit.

I should have paid attention to my dad sharpening his knives when I was younger. Dad's knives would make hair fall off by merely looking at the edge.

Practice , practice, practice. One of the best videos on sharpening I've seen is AIG's on YouTube. Trade can also explain it very well through interpretive dance.

Two words of advice: Work. Sharp.
I've had to teach myself how to sharpen knives and tools, growing up I don't think anyone in my family sharpened anything. My dad had a hand plane that had the factory edge until I tuned and sharpened it a decade ago. It came room the factory in the 1950's.
I'm not saying give up on learning to hand sharpen; I think water stones are easy to use and very forgiving. But jigs and machines have their place, and if you just want your knife to be sharp, that WorkSharp is the bomb.

I hope Murphy's shipment of Dandy's Daffodil and Butterscotch Bloomer beer makes it in time.
