Official SURVIVE! picture thread

SK-4 got plenty of use around camp from carving sticks to getting the fire going. You can see it's kind of dark so those neon green handles really helped me out a few times when I had to find the knife after laying it down.

Made some hot tea and sausages while we were out there too. We needed the smoke from the fire to ward of some of the mosquitoes.

I even got to spend a little time cleaning up the edge on the SK-4 since I hadn't even stropped it after the last round of corrosion tests. It was sharp enough for working in the woods but I find the edge work to be a bit therapeutic. :)

My favorite pic of the whole day was taken by my buddy Dan though. My son figured out how to get Wi-Fi somewhere in the woods and spent the afternoon eating junk food, swatting away mosquitoes, and watching YouTube videos. LOL!

Man, welcome to the gun show!

1. How do you sharpen? Is your technique good enough to get a specific edge angle?
2. Tell me about that sausage please.
3. Other than smoke, what do you do for bugs in the woods?

Check your cell phone bill this month!

Great pics.

I'll take it in XL please!!! Thanks! ;) Seriously (actually I was serious) when will these be available?

Sharpening knives and cycling the handle on a reloading press both clear the brain for me :) Thanks for the pictures man. Illinois clear and green looks a lot better than Idaho black and hazy right now.

WOW, how have I missed this brand? The emblem reminds me of the Miami Heat's emblem. I initially thought this was a survival knife thread but noticed all the similarities of the knives. They are super looking. I like the pics of peeps using them in the field. I've got two fixed blade field knives but no Survive knives. I'll have to do some more reading on them.

Hi there glocktenman. Guy builds a great knife, and they are really good people to deal with. Welcome to the subforum.

I've been eyeballing Survive! for a couple years now, I remember the first time I started researching them there were factory 2nds readily available for the GSO 4.1 and I thought, hmm... I'll pick that up later in the year. The supply of these knives went to nada and now almost 2 years later and I finally picked one up off the secondary market. Kicking myself now for not having one of these since the get-go. Probably wouldn't have mattered either way, since the evolution of knife ownership is to buy every knife that seems to fit the bill and decide only after having said knife put to use whether or not to keep it in the usage lineup. I guess I'm glad I picked it up now after having a bunch of other knives so now I really know that this knife company's product(s)/design(s) really fit with my usage model.

Coot I feel the same. Guy's designs fit my hands and usage perfectly.

I'd love to have one with a 3.75" blade length in CPM-20CV around 3mm thick with a more neutral handle design. Only because it would work so well cleaning game with various grips. But I'm perfectly fine using the 4.1 to clean all the game I take. Works great. I can clean 2 or 3 deer without touching a strop. 3V is awesome stuff.

Not really. Guy needs to get them sharpened to make sure the edges are up to snuff. After that I've been given the ok to find them a home.

If that's the case please make sure his fan from NJ gets one! I haven't spoken to him in a while since he helped me out with those GSO 6 sheaths. Hope all is well with you guys! Busy as hell I bet with all this stuff.

I used my 4.1 for a bit but the 3.5 became my go-to for anything tree rat to whitetail.

I sharpen using a Sharpie and whatever stones I have around. No magic really, just remove the Sharpie from the edge and then strop. In the woods I just use the daylight to look at the scratch patterns along the edge to make sure I'm hitting where I want and will go a bit higher if I need a sharper edge and a bit shallower if I need something more robust.

The sausages have pork, fat back, sugar, grain alcohol, soy sauce, and spices and they are in a natural casing so they have a nice snap when you bite them. They were greasy as heck with all that fat so I tried to warm a few over the fire and it made the casing even snappier. My son described them as pork flavored chewing gum.

I'm allergic to DEET so I don't often use much more than smoke out there and actually found that eating a low-inflammation diet has helped IMMENSELY with bug bites as I have NO welts today while my son (the sugar eater) is just COVERED with them from face to...wherever.

I'm sure he'll change his diet once his metabolism changes! Those sausages really don't sound bad at all.

Well I finally got off work and made the easy try stick with the 4.1. Now I need to get the 5 out and see what kind of mess I can make. This one came out pretty good and I only had one slip that peeled the bark.

Thanks for the detailed response!

And in the interest of just getting a little stupid, a 12k-grit stone on S7...hmm. :D
