Sand or crushed pinecones and a bit of water. Ash from the fire for a passable soap.
You have to be careful when using ash. Water poured through hardwood ash makes lye. While using ash as a "soap" substitute might not be terribly strong, it could have a caustic effect. Rough on hands, deteriorate some metals, or make you sick if ingested. Probably wouldn't happen, just an FYI. We always just used clean mud, and black moss. Pine cone would work ok too.
