Cool knife, Jack!That stag looks impressive to me!
:thumbup::thumbup:
I saw it in the " totin' today" thread, and wondered if it would show up as an "old friend", since I didn't remember having seen it before in my relatively brief time here. (Of course, my remembrances seem to be losing some reliability these days.)
I'm a little leery of actually carrying this higonokami (a gift from Dan Parke) in a pocket, but I had it out on my desk today at work. Definitely a different type of knife than I typically use/carry, but that makes it very interesting to me.

Schrade NY USA 834. The main blade has no snap and is more of a friction knife at this point but it has friction so it doesn't fly open or closed. The other two blades have good snap and all blades are pretty much full. I don't know why I like this one so much (I have another just like it but with good snap on all 3 blades) but I just like its character. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pic.

I usually carry mine in a slip-sheath GT, actually it's the pouch for a Spyderco ceramic whetstone, but my Higo fits into it just nicely...
I've had this knife since 1981, being given it by one of the last apprentice cutlers to be taken on by Rodgers & Wostenholm in Sheffield. It's very far from my oldest pocket-knife, but it's the one I've had longest. I used to carry it often, now only rarely, so I thought I'd bring it out again for Old Friends Friday:thumbup:

Thanks for the suggestion, Jack. :thumbup::thumbup: One of my summer projects is to try some leatherwork; hoping for some beginner's luck!I'd like to try to design and make a slip-sheath like you suggest that could double as "handle padding" when the blade is open.
That certainly is some fine looking stag Jack. A real treasure gifted by one of the last apprentice cutlers to be taken on by Rodgers & Wostenholm in Sheffield definitely qualifies as an old friend.
This 76 vic soldier is an old friend and it is still Friday (9:45 p.m.) It ain't pretty but it has been worked hard.
