Old Friends Friday

Carried this one

I've had this knife since 1981, being given it by one of the last apprentice cutlers to be taken on by Rodgers & Wostenholm in Sheffield. It's very far from my oldest pocket-knife, but it's the one I've had longest. I used to carry it often, now only rarely, so I thought I'd bring it out again for Old Friends Friday :)

Cool knife, Jack!:cool: That stag looks impressive to me!:thumbup::thumbup:
I saw it in the "…totin' today" thread, and wondered if it would show up as an "old friend", since I didn't remember having seen it before in my relatively brief time here. (Of course, my remembrances seem to be losing some reliability these days.)

Thanks a lot my friend, I don't carry it too often these days, a bit bigger and heavier than I generally need. I was looking at some great old stag in Stan Shaw's workshop yesterday, he picked up a sackful off one of the old firms 30-odd years ago, and is still using it! :)

Very nice stag handles in your I-XL/Schrade. Carrying my Buck 313 today - single spring/low profile goodness! OH

I'm a little leery of actually carrying this higonokami (a gift from Dan Parke) in a pocket, but I had it out on my desk today at work. Definitely a different type of knife than I typically use/carry, but that makes it very interesting to me.

Hello Jack I've been so busy lately I keep missing "old friends Friday":( I dropped this old girl in my pocket today. Have a great weekend folks.

Best regards

Robin

Schrade NY USA 834. The main blade has no snap and is more of a friction knife at this point but it has friction so it doesn't fly open or closed. The other two blades have good snap and all blades are pretty much full. I don't know why I like this one so much (I have another just like it but with good snap on all 3 blades) but I just like its character. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pic. :)

I usually carry mine in a slip-sheath GT, actually it's the pouch for a Spyderco ceramic whetstone, but my Higo fits into it just nicely :)

Your old girl sure is a beauty Robin

That's a nice-looking Stockman, reminds me a bit of a Joseph Rodgers I have  It's funny what attracts us to certain knives isn't it? I have some real beat-up folders which are among my favourites :)

Thanks for the suggestion, Jack.:thumbup: One of my summer projects is to try some leatherwork; hoping for some beginner's luck! :D:D I'd like to try to design and make a slip-sheath like you suggest that could double as "handle padding" when the blade is open.

That certainly is some fine looking stag Jack. A real treasure gifted by one of the last apprentice cutlers to be taken on by Rodgers & Wostenholm in Sheffield definitely qualifies as an old friend.

This 76 vic soldier is an old friend and it is still Friday (9:45 p.m.) It ain't pretty but it has been worked hard.

Yeah, me too my friend, I got one of those Speedy Stitcher's as a birthday present a couple of months back, and it's been sitting on my coffee table ever since shaming me! :o Good luck Gary

Thanks a lot Dave, great to see your Old Friend :)
