Old Friends Friday

It's been too long since I carried my Lick Creek Barlow, that castle in the distance has been sold off since this pic was taken!

I wonder if there are more pitchforks and torches days coming.

I didn't really forget I had this, But J jfk1110 reminded me by liking its "newest addition" post from Boxing Day 2021. It's nicer than I remembered.

Possibly Jer, the castle and village have an unusual history, being owned by the same family, who managed to hang onto it, despite being on the losing side in both the War of the Roses and the English Civil War, (while their peasants were shot against the church wall), and 2 demolitions of the village by lunatics, (on the second occasion because the Top Nob had decided he wanted to transform it into a model of a village he had seen in rural Alsace - which is why it has Yorkshire's only a Hotel de Ville)

Your Camillus is lovely :)

Your Camillus is lovely:)
Thank you.
It really is. Funny how my appreciations ebb and flow and shift, but I guess I can't keep everything in mind constantly.
I'm carrying this French Violon today.
That's a pattern that has long tempted me.
Here's another from who knows where or when. It's unmarked.

With a pawl secondary.
It's probably from the old flea market.

That's another nice one Jer :) I got a handful off Tool Man last week, and they went in the box on my kitchen table

Thanks, Jack. I’d really like to know some of the history behind this knife. It might be fairly boring or it could be quite an adventure. That’s the mystery of these old knives that I really like.
That's one of the things that makes old knives interesting I think Jim :) Good luck buddy

I will pop this in a slip in my right front pocket tomorrow; I do so every once in awhile. I fantasize that a craftsman finished it the hour my Dad was born, 20 December 1914. I suspect that it has heard some interesting conversations and touched some interesting objects since then.

Looks like some genuine pocket wear on that one.
I'll reveal the rest of my old friend pics when it's Friday here, but for now-

That is a beauty Lee, what a century!👍

Thanks. That Case is a beauty; well used but not worn out.
This is a Camillus, and maybe my only scout with the long screwdriver and an awl. (I have three Imperials with the long screwdriver and a pen blade instead of an awl.)

I like the long screwdriver so I can pry lightly without levering the joint open. It's great for painting, if nothing else. The awl is good for painting because I do that trick my dad never needed, punching holes in the bottom of the can's groove so it doesn't fill up with paint and defeat the lid's seal.

That triangular fob is beautiful,

Thank you Jer, I like your Camillus, and the long screwdriver :) Good painting tips!

This Camillus has a pretty long screwdriver :) What is the 'V' for? For Vendetta of course! 🤣 👍

I have a couple of those demo knives, and they do have the long screwdrivers. Maybe I conceptualize them in a class of their own.

I haven't seen V in too long. I might need to get the mask, if they aren't illegal yet.

[My $10 Guy Fawkes mask is arriving tomorrow.
There's a rubber Salvador Dali mask for $16. I don't know why I'm tempted by that.]

Thanks Jer, handmade by Gevonovich, and his sister. He gifted me some pendants and earrings for my daughters too, and this :)

Yes, I also think of them as being in a class of their own Jer, military knives, rather than Scout knives :)

I think I saw that movie 3 times when it came out, as different friends wanted to go :D No regrets

The masks sound fun Jer, though you could have saved $16, and just drank a glass of blackcurrant cordial, for the Salvador Dali effect! :D ;)

Good idea! Or grape juice, if I don't want to break my booze fast for Dali.
