Old Friends Friday

Yorkshire Day tomorrow, and I'll be carrying this Old Friend - The Yorkshire Rose! :)

I don’t have any Sheffield knives, but my paternal grandfather wore this old Remington friend down to almost a lambsfoot…

My mother was from Hampshire, but had a friend in Harrogate she used to visit every time she went back home. I assume that’s where she got this souvenir jug.

A fascinating knife Tom 😎 As you know Harrogate is right on my door-step, and Nidderdale, which is named for the River Nidd, is close by 👍

This one I will put a handle on.
I have so few Sheffield knives that aren't Sunday carvers.

I tried finding out how long I've had it by searching for John Wigfall posts by me, but no dice.

I remember it had some really miserable and scanty remains of a handle on it.

You can't beat that good old steel Jer, I'm sure you'll find that useful 👍
Going back into my pictures, it seems I’ve had this one since at least 2017. I never carried it too much - I may remedy that today.

Nice Steve, I've got one of those too (also rarely carried) 👍

I was looking round an 'antiques centre', a dozen or more years ago. The only Sheffield pocket knives they had were poor quality, and vastly overpriced. In a small basket, next to the till though, I spotted this wee T M Bingham Penknife, ivory covers, and a lovely action, priced at a lowly £3. I thought it was the best knife in the shop

Maybe Les Stroud's Wild Harvest reminded me of this one.

It's a relaxing show, easy to wander away from when Les waxes rhapsodic about eating weeds, or Paul goes on about how he wants his dish to evoke the sound of the waterfall with the smell of its mushrooms.

I shall look out for that Jer 👍
Great find, Jack! I love that long bar shield.
Thanks Dave, it's quite a small Penknife, but ticks a lot of boxes for me 🙂
