Old Friends Friday

My old friend, To-mah-to!
Neglected for too long, I touched up the edges and added two drops of pure mineral oil! She's going around with me for a while; maybe the week!

I couldn't believe my eyes the other day when I saw that rock looking back at me near the beach! Pretty astounding really!
The remains of volcanic activity I believe . . . . .

Hmm...nice rock, Charlie. Just to be safe, don't speak Latin in front of it.

Love the Tomato as you know :D BC beaches are the best, spent many nights on Kitts beach watching the city lights. Always fun stuff on the beach but the face is quite amazing. Happy Thankgiving Charlie.

Best regards

Robin

My old Imperial friend. Like me the years have caught up with him but he has been there for me a long time and is still a trusted friend. Today I oiled him up took his picture and took him with me just to hang out together.

:D :D

I picked up this Thomas Turner penknife about 3 years ago, and used to carry it regularly. First time it's been in my pocket for a while though :) Have a great Friday everyone, and an even better weekend

Good morning Jack, here's an old Case tested era barlow that I have never carried. The tip of the master has been re shaped at some point to a very pleasing and functional curve IMO. It turns out to be one of the sharpest knives I own, who knew :D I think it's going to stay in my pocket. Have a great weekend Jack, and All.

Best regards

Robin

This one has been with me since ? (Senior moment), well a long time.Still one of my favorites to have in the pocket.

Great T. Turner, Jack! What is the handle material?
Cool Barlow Robin! Made by Utica for Case I think!
OT, that's a nice Boker - how long is it?

It's right at 3" Charlie, I think the covers are Walnut or Beech.

Morning Robin, what a wonderful old Barlow :)

Thanks Charlie, when I first picked it up, I had one or two theories about what brand of synthetic it might be, as did others, but I really don't know. It has a very pleasing feel, and the stripes go 'right through', if you know what I mean. It's also soft enough to have a few light scars on the pile side, as if it has been pressed against something hard. My original theory was 'Tufnol', but I'm not sure it's that. Reverse tang is stamped 'Cutler to His Majesty'. My guess would be 1930's, but possibly late 40's (ie post-WW2).

Nice to see that lovely old Boker OT

Thanks Jack!
From here it looked like painted metal. Since it is a plastic, it looks like it was layered like French ivory.

Someones old friends... The trapper was gifted to me by a neighbor once, 10 years ago probably. It was her man's knife, and he had died several years prior to that even. I tried to tell her to keep it, but the word 'trash' came up I think, so I kept him. Obviously, some hand loved this knife. I cleaned it up and now it lives with other old knives. He still cuts up the odd bit of mail or apple, but enjoys that being the hardest work it does anymore Im sure.
The Old Timer 33... Hell, I dont even know where it came from. I never had one or bought one, but here it is. Maybe a box lot find at an auction.. Someone made good friends with it too before it was orphaned. I stoned the blade flats to get rid of some pitting recently, and cleaned all the nasty off the blades I had put there using it as a crust and goo scraper on the workbench. WD40 can get any sort of nasty to slide off a blade, thankfully..

Heres to all the 'old friends' who werent always 'your' friend.
