Old Friends Friday

Great stuff guys, I'll see you here next week! :)

Jack

This Old Friend was my very first GEC, and gifted to me by my very good friend Duncan (Campbellclanman). It was his favourite knife, and the generosity of his gesture has always meant a great deal to me. So it feels good to be carrying the 2011 forum knife again today :)

I thought I'd throw this in my pocket for Friday Old friend day.

Have a wonderful weekend folks.

Best regards

Robin

Great idea, Jack! Like others, I've pondered what to carry today after first reading your thread last week.

I didn't have to think long:

You are a lucky man Jack and you have 2 of the greatest things, a great friend and a great knife.

This one was gifted to me by a great friend.

Well, Jack, as far as this thread goes, where you lead I will follow. I've carried last Friday's Old Friends' carry all week, but I am switching to this 2008 Big Jack, my first ever GEC.

I decided to carry this old friend today. I love this knife. It is an old Hoffritz Victorinox Champion with super sweet stag handles. I used to carry this with me everywhere, and for the last 6 months or so it has been sitting in a drawer. Today it shall ride proudly in my pocket.

Thanks a lot Dave, a great knife given by a great friend is hard to beat :)

And more lovely stag :)

This old Boker today. I can't recall now if it was a gift from my grandfather or father. It's not an especially collectible or expensive knife so I practiced sharpening on it a time or two when I was too young to know better. So it's a little rough around the edges but the sentimental value keeps it in my pocket today.

One of these will be my next purchase. Attending a knife show tomorrow with my father-in-law (big Case collector BTW) looking for just this knife.

Here's an old friend of mine. I picked this Buck up back in 1980, at a PX store while I was in the Coast Guard. About a month after I bought it, the backspring let go, so I sent it in and had repaired. The return address I included was my parents house in NH, and when they got it, my mom sent it to the FPO address for my ship. It had about six stamps on the envelope, having travelled along the FPO system in Alaska, always just missing our port of call. It finally caught up to me when we were back in home port in Seattle Wa! :)

True story.

Here's an old friend I think I'll carry today. This was my second knife ever. My first was a Boy Scout knife given to me at age 10 by my Dad in 1964 (still have it), but this was the first one I bought with my own money. My Gramps had the same knife so I bought one the same. Bought this in 1968 or 69 if memory serves correct. Schrade Old Timer 34OT.
