Old Friends Friday

Well, I missed posting in this thread last Friday, and have been anticipating today!!
Great Idea, Jack!!
I've notice almost everyone's "friends" are not spectacular or fancy, just good reliable patterns and makes!
I could have posted a dozen buddies here, but chose the top three. They have spent long periods with me, sometimes years, and feel right at home in my pockets.
These zipped around with me all day today, helping my daughter move including dis-assembling a bed, then putting it back together, and shopping for dinner for my hard working mate (She Who Finds Knives!).
One or more of them can always be found on my person!
Without further ado, cast your ummm . . beady eyes* on these homeboys!!:D**

** in order of appearance;
>Old Boiley - still the best Barlow Bill ever made!
>Beloved BF Second
>One of Tony's knives, generously passed along from his pocket!!

Charlie, would you mind giving a little more info on the bottom one? That one certainly caught my eye. :thumbup:

Edit:
Thanks Charlie.

Great knives,GREAT trade beads, WONDERFUL tiny mask, I LOVE that.

Best regards

The bottom knife was Tony Bose's personal knife. He passed it along to a good friend, who in turn traded it to a good friend of mine, who sent it to me for modest consideration! (Got it so far?)
I see it as a real TB WT that I can use for the rest of my life!
It's Tony's favorite pattern (or was, last time I checked).

Robin, I am pretty sure that tiny bone mask is Inuit. Two local experts agree! I picked it out of an estate drawer for a few bucks, but have no further story to tell, other than there was some definite talent in carving it.

Wow! Folks are showing some amazing old friends today! :thumbup::thumbup:
Ones that especially resonate with me (for a variety of reasons) include:
Jack's EO 85 (great story of how it came to him, and I'm still obsessed with EO teardrop jacks);
BigBiscuit's 34 OT (I'm always a sucker for "first knife" stories);
Sarah's swayback jack (I've NEEDED one like that ever since I won a "matching" Sodbuster Jr in BigBiscuit's pre-surgery GAW);
dma1965's sweet stag SAK (I always appreciate SAKs, and I admire stag, so the combo is "killer" for me).
TGIOFF! :D:D

I can see it being Inuit but I would have said Haida, all the right form lines are there. Either way, it's a gem.

Thanks for showing it Charlie

Great pics (and picks) everyone! I'm late to the party today but here's mine. Old Timer 1080T that I bought at my hometown hardware store, back when you could still ogle a case of US-made Schrades. Looking back I should've bought the whole case :rolleyes:

This is definitely an old friend. One of my oldest. Have a great weekend!

This thread made me pull out an oldie. This was my grandfathers Camillus Sword Brand knife. I believe its a scout knife...though not sure. Haven't done any leg work to date or learn much about it.

Its safe to say this knife hasn't been carried in over 20 years. And this is the first time I've carried it. So its definitely an old friend........as I've looked at it for years......but never really got to know it.

Decided to go kayaking and thought id take it along. Don't worry.......I tied a lanyard on so it wouldn't go for a swim.

The cap lifter may or may not have been useful after the paddling.

Great thread!

Jim

After looking at this thread for the first time last night, I slipped this one in my pocket. I got it when Queen first came out with the D2 versions, and it has thin edge grinds, unlike some later queen knives that I bought. In recent years it has been neglected, but maybe I'll start bringing it out more.

Some beautiful knives folks, nice to see them being carried again :) Great pics Jim :thumbup:

Love the jigging on this one :thumbup:

Hope to see you here next week folks :) :thumbup:

This is my oldest friend. Given to me when I was seven and carried almost every day since I was ten. I have officially retired it as the blade is too loose to be safely used.

Here are two old friends I have started to carry again.

Hey, what's wrong with that blade, side to side play? If so, it's easy enough to fix :thumbup:

This Boker Tree Brand Stockman was one of the first knives I had of this pattern. I like it a lot. Usually carry it more in the Summer months than the Winter, and find it a great picnic/camping/hiking knife. It got sidelined a bit last year and didn't get carried so much as in the past. Nice having it in my pocket today though :)

Have a good Friday everyone and a great weekend :thumbup:

The TC pen behind the Spear Ebony Barlow---when Duncan lost his "Beloved" single blade Spear I asked if he'd accept this two blade version in it's place. I sent this to Duncan and have looked for a 2012 Ebony ppp Single Blade Spear for him ever since.

Found one from a great forum member here (thanks Brett);):thumbup: and immediately contacted Duncan---Not to ask for my two blade back but to tell him I located "HIS" knife.

Duncan being Duncan insisted we do a "Swapsie" I think is how it was referred to?

Well we added some other knives to the mix but long story short This (Our) Duncan's and My two blade Pen behind the Spear is back with me:thumbup:

Truly and "Old Friends Friday" for sure:thumbup:

Love the old Tortoise Boker Jack:thumbup:

Happy Friday, everyone!

I love this idea of Old Friends Friday. It's good for me to look at what I have at least as much as what I want. Today I'm carrying my first GEC:

Oh, and Jim: I wanna kayak with manatees! :p
