"Old Knives"

I feel almost embarrassed putting these Knives up after such a stunning show of Honk Fall Knives, Old and fairly rare, so please forgive my next posts, I think there is definite room in a collection to show bygone times such awesome offers for the Prince Albert knives, and being Schrade - we kind of have to welcome them with open arms ( I am hoping ), Tin has never been opened and has Tobacco still packed into it :)

Its nice to see that each knife is in beautiful condition.

I have been waiting a very long time for this knife to arrive, it missed the Last Box from my Postmaster in ND, so sat waiting for others to build up and be sent over.

Some time ago I purchased Buffalo Bill New York Camp Knife, in very nice condition, showing slight patina and the photos DEFINITELY have to be taken again - the Knife is in Superb condition- and has Ren Wax all over it- forgive me for this, anyway, I was lucky enough to purchase another of these Knives, This may be the Cody? I don't Know - the Blades are Highly polished, I suspected after it was made- but upon careful inspection - this Knife was assembled the way you see it.

The Shield is the same as the Buffalo Bill example, but has no blade etch, The Punch is the Spiraled New York Punch, and on the Buffalo Bill example it has the New York Punch with no Spiral.

I remember when I purchased the Buffalo Bill - there was another knife next to it that was the same - but had the Spiral Punch along with everything else such as the Shield - Etch etc, but it was remarkably expensive for me at that time.

I am super pleased to have these two examples. To the seller, I am sorry and by the time came when I received the Knife all feedback was closed and I want you to know I appreciated your communication and descriptions.

This Knife is in remarkable shape.

The Highlights of strong "White Light" in these phots are terrible and are by the window photos- I will retake shots that show these knives in their more natural beauty state.

This is a relatively “old Knife”. It is the only Ulster i have left, which is a little sad. It seem like there are a ton of scout knives and other ulsters that are not all that special and then there are some Ulster knives that are just off the charts amazing. This one I think is somewhere in between. I like to tell myself this knife has just enough wear to have been carried to Italy with the 10th mountain div and then left alone until I got it. At least that’s what I want to believe but who knows. Ulster made three versions of this. I believe they put the phillips on the bail so soldiers could us just the bindings on their skies without taking their gloves off. Kind of cool. Have to keep it. James, I think you should keep that one- it definitely is a very nice Ulster! :) For the smaller Knife- they Pack a good handful of stout Blades / Tools, you dont see all that many with the Phillips on the Bail! or at least I havent.

Thanks Duncan. I was thinking the same thing. I always found the sheepsfoot blade to be very utilitarian. I’m not sure what the secondary is best for but ulster’s Spey?? Is pretty distinctive for some reason. These with the phillips on the bail come around every now and again but they’re not givin them away that’s for sure.

Interesting for an Ulster Knife, I would call that a Camillus Spey, I did a comparison on Sears in and out all kind of angles, in the photo below the Top Knife is Ulster, the Bottom is Camillus, note the very strong differences and the Camillus shines out as to be the one in your Knife - which......is an Ulster. I always use the term "Snub Nose" for the Camillus.
I would never have called that Spey if shown by itself an Ulster, but if I am not mistaken - these are made within the parent company that owned both Brand names - so choices, choices :)

Love that one James- the Sheepsfoot Main is awesome, I would love to come across one with a Phillips on the bail- as I would slot it next it's cousins, Here is a Knife sharing strong DNA of your knife James Sir, this one has the liner Lock for the Punch, I thought this was the only one I had seen, but our good friend Lambertiana shared some photos of his Liner Lock version as well, still....... one that from what I can see so far is few and far between..

Great info Duncan and really cool knives. Not sure of the time line but I believe Albert Baer bought Ulster in 41 which was before the 10th mountain knives were produced. He didn’t by schrade until 1946. The way I remember he had his daughter running Camillus but I’m not sure when. I know in 46 Ulster received an award from the military for their war time production. Many times companies would contract out parts and assembly to other companies to meet the large orders. By this time just about everyone was stamping blades out of sheet metal. Some companies had larger equipment then others. Imperial comes to mind. It’s hard to know but it’s an aspect of collecting that I enjoy. Thanks for posting.

Thanks James, you got the time lines :)

The paper work is what I have always wanted with the outsourcing to other Companies- especially when it comes to the Punch on Knives, one day soon I am going dedicate a lot of time on that - for my own interests o_O

It is me who is thanking you for posting my friend - very much appreciate looking at your Honk Falls Collection!
