"Old Knives"

^^ You're probably right - I just this might be the place to go for "old knife" questions - but i suppose opening it up to a wider audience might help - thanks campbell (made a new thread)

Today I oiled and sharpened this old Craftsman 9554 for the X-ray tech at my work. He's an older gentleman, born in 1933. Not sure how old this knife is, but all the patina and wear is from his use. Cleaned up his Kutmaster a few days ago, wish I had taken pictures of that too. I've never seen a backspring setup quite like this. Instead of the two secondary blades sharing a backspring, and the master having it's own, the secondary blades each have one, and the master uses both of them.

Very nice craftsman, I've seen this springs arrangement before it gives the main blade more tension.

I found this one today at a local antique shop. It has integral steel bolsters and liners... I'm thinking around 1830's.... What do you think?

I hope I didn't get skinned.... I gave a whole $40 dollars for it!

Here's a small Pruner made by Southern & Richardson Sheffield England,
It has "Nest Knife" stamped in the blade. 3-1/2 closed. Cocobolo scales. Don't know much
about this one yet! Just got it last week.

A rather obscure brand - Krakauer-Zork-Moye's Socs Inc (c 1885-1914); well used, but I love the bone on this one

Lambertiana...you are so right there ..that Bone is quite beautiful.
Jason, that Remington Pruner is a stunner!.

Lovely knives guys, I always enjoy looking at your knives, thank you.

Stunning knives Jason and Lambertiana those oldies have this something that modern knives lacks, like venyl records vs. CD's. Music just sounds better on vinyl.

Duncan, that first Ulster is the purtiest of all, IMO!
The Miller has an Empire punch. I've never been able to determine whether Empire made the HJs for Miller (most likely), or sold them the punches (also possible).
I have seen documentation that Empire made and sold punches for/to several companies.
Dwight Devine foreclosed on the Co-operative Knife Co. in 1876 or so, and operated as Ulster until selling to Albert Baer in 1941. I'm not sure if you can date the knives by the markings "Ulster" vs." Dwight Devine". I think they used both. They were very respected makers.
Nice Primble!! A rare beauty!!

Great collection of antiques!!

Thank you in every way Charlie.
Im still having to sit down and look, study these knives....
Great information, thankfully received.

Nice pick-up buddy! They all look great! But I love
that Miller Bro's HJ! Very nice knife. Congrats...

Jason

Duncan - Sweet bunch you have there! I especially like that first Ulster.

Charlie - I have a Challenge cattle knife with the Alvord punch. Maybe the knife was made by Empire, maybe Empire sold Challenge the punch.
