"Old Knives"

Andi: Thanks for the kind comments. I've been accumulating pocket knives for a long time. My time here on BF has been more recent and the knowledge gained has been super. I have enjoyed the postings of others and am happy to share some of my collection. The knife people I've come in contact with here on BF have been some of the best and really good to deal with.
Here is another of my favorite pieces. The knife is a simple pen knife , but if you know the story on Jack Knife Ben you'll appreciate the tang marks Charles

I really appreciate your posts, in this thread, in your Vintage Lobsters masterwork, and elsewhere.

My main question regarding your knives, asked with a smile, is: Have we seen 'em all yet? Because I somehow doubt it. Every time I look, there are MORE!

Here are two out of the seven I bought on ebay (awaiting the arrival of the others)

First up is this Remington Jack...other than the light snap it is awesome. I can't complain for twenty five dollars, though.

Another is this Valley Forge jack. Some blade loss (and a piece of the pull is gone...weird), but still a great knife.

Vanguard41xx, I've seen nearly identical broken pulls several times and it seems too common and too similar just to be an accident but I'm not sure of the cause. I wonder if they are manufacturing flaws. Here's a photo that I pulled from eBay of another example.

Two more beauties Vanguard41xx. Looking forward to seeing the others. The bone on the Remington is buttery.

Real nice knives guys, Im sure the broken piece is simply a flaw in the casting of the metal of the blade, and when it comes to that much of a narrow collar that borders the deeper Nail Nick..its bound to give if there is a flaw just sitting there-of which would never be discovered if the nail nick wasnt stamped in... the stamping process alone will cause stress on the metal + a flaw = a break coming up sometime in the future...
Vanguard, that Bone on your Remington Jack is simply beautiful, and what a steal for that price!!! I love that little knife, is that about 3 &1/2 inches closed?

Thank you for the kind words. And yes it is 3 1/2 closed.

Heres the Barlow I got on ebay, the handle is a synthetic (possibly delrin or similar)...has one small crack near the center pin which is just noticeable, bought it as a work knife I can just chuck in with my keys etc. The pull on the main is probably 4 or 5 out of 10 with a nice snap open and closed.

Here are two more from ebay (still waiting on more :p).

First is this Case tested jack. Main blade is the true definition of a nail breaker.

Next is another Case...40's-60's with redbone scales. Nice snap on this as well.

Vanguard - Love that Case Tested, it's got character.

Does that Remington Jack have a pattern number on it? If not, it could be a promotional knife, like the Wrigley gum promo.

Love those old Barlows. I think you just found a new friend. ;)

Helped a friend clean out his deceased uncle's place a few weeks ago. He told me to keep this. It looked like a chunk of dirt and oil when I found it.

Got a neat "ratchet lock."

Very interesting kbras. I like it. Does it lock into different positions?

Kind of. You have to hold a tab up to release the lock and fold it past the teeth. It doesn't lock closed, but it will lock open, somewhat, in different positions. Of course, the lockup is not very solid, but, hey, I'm used to slipjoints, right? I don't need no stinking locks!

I beleive it to be a Navaja knife. The handle is just a split cow horn, with no liners. I suspect it's more than 50 years old, just from getting a family history from my friend. It has "Madroni" stamped on the blade. Get's crazy sharp, too.
