My father in law gave this to me yesterday, it was his fathers. I haven't identified it just yet. The secondary blade is missing, the main blade is badly worn. The tang markings are almost gone. The top line ends with an S, can't read the center line at all, lower line ends with N.Y. Any ideas? I'm thinking Camillus?

Picked this one up recently. Looks like its circa 1917-1946. Originally thought the scales were ebony (based on sellers description) but they seem to be synthetic. Still seems like a decent knife even with synthetic scales so I guess its a keeper.

Its wood and almost definitely ebony. I can see the pores (Endgrain:diffuse-porous indicative of ebony ). Super nice specimen and yes sir...that's more than a keeper!! It's a jewel.

Thanks Gevonovich, I could be mistaken, the handle may actually be wood after all. I have a hard time telling the difference on handle materials some times.

I got two knive

s as gifts from a friend here in Germany. He´s no knife guy and the knives meant a lot to him, they were the two knives of his grandpa, who died years ago. He knew, that I´m always interessted in old knives (and knives in general). So he asked me, if I want them. He doesn´t need them and thinks it would be a pitty when they would rest longer in this plastic bag, where a lot of items were stored.

The first one is a nice Richartz, Solingen penknife. It has synthetic scales and minor bladeplay on both blades... I really love this tangstamp with that whale...

The other knife I got was is a penblade, too. But very, very large with thick stag and beautiful worn-out stagscales. The scales already turned into a nice cremish-yellow. Though the tip of the mainblade is broken. It´s written "Ludwig Groten, Solingen" on the tangstamp.
Some internet searches, I found out, that this was a very small manufacturer in Solingen, Germany. There are no real identifications possible, because they didn´t make many knives. And didn´t exist for long. The whole knife is like a tank!

Couple of real nice ones there. I love the bone on both of those Jason. Is a Boker knife without the tree stamp older? I don't think I've ever seen that stamp before.

It has the tree stamp on the back of the main blade... Sorry I should have said something
about that...

Two great knives there Jason, I love the Bone on those two...Wow...beautiful Bone in fact,
Could you let us know what age that Boker is, as I too havent seen a stamp like that-its very nice!

Here is an old Fabyan Knife Company 3 3/8" Swayback. Fabyan was a short lived wholesale importer late 1880's to early 1890's. Imported mostly from Germany and England. No country of origin on tangs so I will assume it is pre 1891.
