"Old Knives"

I can sure see why that "Jimmy Allen" would be a favorite!;) I love the secondary clip blade shape also and that bone.....

Wow!!!
What knives showing up here of late!
Killer Daddy Rem, Tony!! And a host of others. . . . . . one amazing thread!!

My Thanks to all who have contributed to this great thread.

I do not know how to post photos to this forum, so my comment below may be incorrect, out of place, or just in bad taste. Please forgive me and move or delete if I have crossed some line.

I have one comment that could be incorrect. I will accept criticism, and gladly be corrected. Many posts seem to be through hosting sites that take down the photos when there is a change, or a sale. Some of the best early posts of Vince and others are no longer available in this thread. I know that we cannot save Roland Procter's Hard Drive, but we may be able to save or re-post many of the lost photos posted by the many wonderfully generous contributors to this thread in the past.

Is there a way to make pictures posted to this thread permanent without imposing upon the posters?

There is great stuff being lost here. If any one has a suggestion, please post it.

Many of us will never see or handle these knives in person. This Traditional sub-forum is the closest that I get to a museum, or even a good Knife Show, excepting my 2 times at Blade in Atlanta, where there there was far more than I could even get to see, let alone examine.

I like to start at the beginning of this thread and page through it. There are many truly wonderful posts. One of my favorites, some way back is a Kerry Hampton picture of a knife Tony Bose found from a maker in Indiana with worm groove bone from the early 1900s. This is the finest example of Worm Groove that I have ever seen. There were also several great posts and comments on old Ivory.

As with many of you, this is a favorite thread of mine which shows treasures that I would never have been able to see without this great thread.

Again, thanks to all,

Mike H.
Looking for a 2009 Blade Forum Barlow knife

Mike you can always send your photos to me to michaelb04 at google dot com (at=@) and I'll be more than happy to post them.
As for saving photos Picasa seem to be good solution.

There is no way for the Forum to save all the pictures, since most of them are only links. As such, they are not actually on the BF server. The word parts of the post will always be available here at BF.

Recent eBay purchase. Camillus Easy Open Jack with some nice bone. These are the seller's pics as I haven't had time to make any (and probably won't for quite some time). My first "vintage" knife and I'm very pleased. Strong snap; main blade perfectly centered -- pen is not. Only real "flaw" for me is that the backspring stands slightly proud when the blade is open.

Edit: the whitish spots on the edge of the bone scale in the second pic are just glare I guess, since they aren't there on the knife in hand.

Here's an old (c.1837 -1890) Joseph Rodgers Cutlers To Her Majesty 3-1/8" carved pearl quill knife. I picked this one up for my wife as a Yule present. She has a small collection of tiny, delicate antique pen knives, so hopefully, it will make a nice addition. This little thing is remarkably well put together; very tight and snappy, and the attention to fine detail is right up there.
