I once had one of those that I ended up giving to a friend. I am enjoying your knives that are throughout this forum. They all seem very nice as well as collectible.
I further note that you have a very interesting and old collection of U.S. coinage that add even more interest to your images. Just thought I would mention that too. :)

Thank you for the kind words!

Note to self: Do NOT go a couple of weeks without browsing the Old Knives thread.

Mike Berkovitch, Mike Robuck, Barry, Charles, Simple Man... and Duncan and Primble (Dudes!) ... Y'all are killing it. Thanks to all for sharing your beautiful knives.

I will now pick up my jaw from the floor.

Primble my friend, I have found I have (since shifting and loosing my Photograph spot I had in my Garden) slacked greatly in the photo field, so you Sir have inspired me to re-take some photos - I need to put some thought into where I will do this and I just wanted to thank you ...heres a lovely Jack I purchased off my good Friend Mr. P Hilborn...
Just a gorgeous Jack in all accounts...

Heres a Primble for you Sir..

Another wee Primble...( forgive the very old shots )

Gorgeous indeed Duncan!!! - I am surprised that Paul turned that one loose.

All of these are wonderful to see and I wonder about the approximate closed length of the Jack and the wee Primble jack?

I love to see these great ole knives! Thanks Duncan!:thumbup::thumbup:;)

Al - your comments were appreciated.

Nice!! My birth year too!

Thank you Jon!

This one is not really a red bone, but, kind of a pretty bone, 1971 Muskrat.

and a 1971 red bone cigar jack, which I allowed the carbon blades to get "all spiced up". :D

You must be testing me to see if I was really paying attention. As nice as your knives (and Hawk) are, your last two posts are sans coins. ;)
PS, to all contributors, I see a whole lot of beautiful knives here, but this thread moves so fast that it is just about impossible to keep up with them all.
BTW, Nice patina on that Cigar Jack. :)

I took those photos a while back, so just a coincidence - sometimes I leave the coins out to keep from boring the bunch. ;):D:D

P.S. - I will do my part and try to slow the thread down a bit, but, hope the others keep it going with their fine ole knives. :)

Thanks, and I'll do my best to try and keep up. I would hate to miss out on some of those beauties. ;)

Brad - thank you my friend - although nothing like your amazing collection - I find myself happy where I am at this stage - theres lots of time to grow, and having blade - forum friends like you is not only way cool, but extremely inspirational.
Yes - our good mate Paul does indeed have some real nice stuff....I am thinking hes a bit of a dark horse- showing us just a wee bit of what he has amassed over the years in knife gold lol.

When I bought this knife for a song, the bone handles looked like they were covered in a dull black tar like substance.

I cleaned the bone with mineral spirits, still dull, then rubbed down with 0000 steel wool, some better.

A small amount of Flitz and about five minutes on a Dremel buffing wheel put the shine and proper color back in the scales.

Since I believe this is considered a gentleman's knife, I went ahead and lightly buffed the shield and bolsters.

All the blades have snap and are pretty full, I only cleaned them with oil and 0000 steel wool.

I am certainly no authority on NYKC and found the era by the tang stamp. If anyone thinks that is wrong - kindly let me know. :D

Primble, just fantastic stuff. What a score on that NYKC! A guy's gotta feel pretty good on how well that little jewel cleaned up.

Duncan, you have great cutlery taste as well! I love that jack knife from Mr. H.

Great thread and much appreciated!

Hi, y'all,
I'd just like to say that this thread is the reason that I joined bladeforums in the first place. Thank you, waynorth, primble, cnoyes, VCM3, and all the other wonderful gentlemen(and ladies) who have contributed to this wonderful little treasure trove of information and eye candy. I may post some of my more elderly knives here later, though they will pale in comparison to the ones posted previously.

Thank you Barry, that's very kind of you to say- and it echoes what I have always said that I owe MANY people here in forums thanks, Mr P is MOST DEFINITELY one of them.

I appreciated your comments Barry - yes, it felt very good.

I spent around two hours total on the clean up and when finished - I smiled :) and thought - from trash to treasure - at least for this ole knife lover!
