"Old Knives"

Thank you for your comments on my Catt., gentlemen.

Ward Master Craft stag folding hunter:

This knife reminds me of an ole dogs head Kabar, similar model, with that same time worn stag look, which was up for auction. It was a beauty and so is this ole knife. The old stag and the blade patina looks wonderful.:)

Very nice "Indian Trail" bone on that Catt. Primble. Great pattern as well.

Never to old to learn something new Mike. I thought I knew most of the bone jigging patterns, but, had not heard of the "Indian Trail". I will take your word for it and thanks. ;)

Now that is interesting, Primble. Peach seed like an old Schrade Cut. And the lines on that knife looks like a Remington. Just a beauty.

Boy!!! - I just love an old bone knife like that - they just have so much character. You have a lot of wonderful knives. ;)

Thanks for the comment. Yeah this old pick bone reminds me of the very early NYK bone, one of my favorite materials after pearl
Charles.

Wonderful knives here guys, I just want to say thank you so much for giving me the joy that I feel when looking at these knives, I really think its a privilege.
Charles - that Trout -Chicago is simply stunning - as is Primbles Peach Seed.
Thanks guys!

Thank you Duncan. You are a gentleman! You can pull out some of your old dandy knives and take over any time. ;):D

Goodness gracious that pick bone is fine, Charles! Trout Hardware is a new one on me. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Primble, haha...ok a while ago you asked me to take a few photo's of my Case Red Bones, now I find time hard to spare as of lately - been really missing spending luxurious time cruising through the Traditionals, but managed to run outside and take a few picks.

My apologies for the terrible quality of the photos - it annoys the heck out of me to get my reflection in the knife blade-I also had a bad combination going on of fast running out light - so I was rushing terribly, my only set of charge-up Batteries running out real low-having to turn the camera on and of in-between shots lol..AND the Oil and Flint residue from hastily wiping down the gallons of oil I have on the blades...so all in all a pretty poor show - It was a wee bit too dark to get the true nature and feel out of that most beautiful stunning Early Case Red Bone.

I just looooooove Red Bone, Man there really is ONLY one thing that equals it and that's Peach-seed.

My beloved CASE XX Barlow - the blade looks to have scratches - this isn't so, unfortunately they are wipe marks in the residue oil, this knife was gifted to me, and its quite special......

CASE XX 6127 Loomfixer - Not True Red Bone, but by all means quite beautifull colouring, the Face side being slightly Darker - and I didn't have the right light to bring its deep lustery Rich Red/Brown out, the Pile side being a little lighter with more activity ... I am really sorry about the first two out-of-focus shots taken of this knife - they do it absolutely NO justice!

CASE XX USA Half Congress Red Bone, I am not usually into Half Congresses or full Congresses, but there are two that I really like, A Primble one that has recently left the shores of New Zealand to Robins Paws, and this absolute Stonker of a knife - just superb...

CASE XX 8 DOT 6232 A Stunning Jack - I love this knife a lot!

More to follow in a few minutes....

Indeed they did Duncan! Those old red bones tend to be my all time favorite handle materials.

I decided to skip the fishing this morning and catch up on much needed sleep.

I woke up this morning and got my coffee going - then was surprised to see these fine ole red bones you decided to post up.

I loved looking at every one of them - they are all really great knives.

I too really love the Loomfixer and I don't have one of them, but, know where a nice one resides and would buy it, if I could hide that Price Guide from the ole guy.:D

I see that you say it might not be a true red bone. I guess we all have our own individual standard of what is red bone and what is not, but, I tend to call these old Case red bones, a red bone, as long as there is a pretty decent amount of reddish tint to the brown. So I would call yours a red bone.

My guess is that there were good days and not as good days on the dye process, but, by and large, I think they usually got it right, back in the 1970's and earlier.

I am getting a bit long winded again and I will close by saying thanks for the read and pictures and I especially liked your last photo of the peanut.:)

Thanks Fes, Primble, the Loomfixer is a Beaut for sure, I wish I had got out a bit earlier - as well as checked the batteries, I always look back with distaste at out of focus photos, I will be sure to take a lot better one next time :o
