"Old Knives"

Primble
Those are some really fine Cats you've got there! The balloon end swell center must be even nicer in hand at 3.5 inches!! Man ...that one really is special.

Here's an old Primble Saw Cut Red Bone Barlow. SOILD blades with NO play at all. It's well used but with good blades yet that take a terrific edge:thumbup:

There's some gunk in the joints yet that I'll clean out and that's it for this ole girl;)

The "walk and talk" is excellent:thumbup:

Thats a great knife Paul! like you say, the covers are just fantastic! theres more to those scales than just a quick buzz with the saw - I love the lines in the cut - and the colour is bang-on!

I will gladly concur with the comments about Paul's Barlow. Nice one Paul!

BTW Primble, those Cats aren't half bad either!

Great Primble, Paul.

Bolsters and Saw Cut.

The Primble looks to be built like a Tank. I Love the Bolsters.

Thanks Duncan, means a lot coming from you my friend:thumbup:

Thank you Brad, as I learned more in a forty minute phone call with you than I had in four years trying to learn certain knife history on my own;):) and I agree with you on Primbles Catt's:thumbup:

That is a nice one. In addition to the scales, I like the faceted bolsters.

Thank you Mike, even though I read your book cover to cover, gifted to me from Markesharp, aka Mark, I find myself nosing through it constantly. Thanks for all the effort and time you invested in your book as MANY will learn so much from reading and perusing through it:thumbup:

Thanks Mike. It has a Tank like feel to it, seriously, a bit Bolster Heavy---no complaints about that at all, just my observation;)

While not the biggest barlow fan, that Primble is something. It doesn't just speak to me, it sings!

Thanks as well blademan. I REALLY like this Barlow. Sorry to be redundant, but for the Bolsters, SOLID feel it exudes with NO blade play and bone covers that speak to a history of true craftsmanship:thumbup:

WOW !! :eek::eek::eek::eek:

I go on a trip for the day and come back to find out Charlie is saying goodbye and Paul has posted up one of the most beautiful old Primble saw-cut bone Barlows that I have seen.:o

Thankfully Charlie was just saying goodbye to a fine old knife collection and then I find this beautiful Belknap HDW. & MFG. CO. red bone Primble in every thread which I frequent!!

I am so very sorry to tell you Paul, but, that knife has MY nickname stamped on the bolsters. :grumpy::p

I might not sleep tonight for tossing and turning.:D

More seriously - excellent find Paul.:rolleyes::barf::D

Thank you everyone for the comments on my old Cats.:)

Great pictures of great knives. Many thanks. I have just picked up a CAMCO barlow and will try and post a pic .. not in the same league as the PRIMBLE though.
Meanwhile back to SHEFFIELD. An IBBERSON with FIRTH STAINLESS blades. 3 ins closed.

Very nice Barlow Paul. The star stamp ones were made by Boker.

Hi Mike,

I am wondering where that information came from??:confused::)

I have also seen this information:

The star under the tang usually means it was a Camillus contract made prior to 1965, Primble knives with the "Belknap" tangstamp of the same era without the star were normally Schrade.

Primbles have been made by many different manufacturers over the years.

I would agree that the John Primble Barlow looks like it might have been made by Boker, I have other John Primbles with that star on the back of the tang which appear to be made by other makers.

I was just wondering about the source of your information and this confused me a bit. ;):)

Here is a link that discusses the star stamp and I came to no firm conclusion from reading it.

I had once a peanuts collection that included a Primble with a star stamps, I made a research and came up with this Boker info. I don't have the source of this info but I found this interesting thread http://www.allaboutpocketknives.com...=179975&hilit=Primble+with+star+stamp#p179975
and also here http://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/topics/7101332/John_Primble_pocket_knives , So also Camillus is a possibility although the construction reminds me of Boker.
