"Old Knives"

I have been way too busy the last couple of months. I have not been to this thread in awhile and see I have missed much. Rather than bring all the previously posted knives to the front again just let me say what a wonderful showing these last few months. Thanks for sharing to all who have done so.

I have acquired these few beauties in the past couple of months:

A couple of Muskrats at nearly 4” each. These knives while similar are quite different in their construction methods.

Top: Remington c. 1935-40

This knife was used some but very well cared for. I think it was carried more than used. Beautiful crack and chip free bone.

Bottom: Schrade Walden NY c. 1946-73

I think closer to the earlier dates for this one. Again, very well cared for with crack and chip free bone.

Bridge Cutlery 3 1/4” c.1902-39

John Pritzlaff H. CO 3 1/4” c.1850-1957

Nice little knife in near mint condition. I have an older catalog form the hardwre store that shows this knife and details the covers as horn over white celluloid. Very well made.

I posted this knife in the OB thread, but more people seem to look at this thread, so I going to post it here as well. Here is a recent addition to my OB collection. It is a traditional pearl model, but the surprise to me was the maker. This one is a Camillus. Has the 4 line mark which is pre WWII. This must be early as I've never seen a Camillus OB before. This one even has milled nickel silver liners with a very high grade of F/F. Condition is super as well. A real treasured addition to my OB's. Enjoy.
Charles

Brad
Great to see your new acquisitions! The Remington muskrat, the Bridge, and the Pritzlaff are my favorites. Thanks for sharing them all!

Primble

The new Primbles are spectacular. The Pill Buster....I think I need some nitro...can you send it over so I can crush the pills..quick now...I don't have much time.;)

Gev...sorry to be a shadow in your footsteps all the time my friend - but I must agree with you - Brad Sir- nice to "chat" with you again recently - your older knives are absolutely exquisite - that Pritzlaff is a very well built knife my friend-Wow, with the doubled scales - beautiful... The main blade looks to be an exact of my Ulster.

Primble buddy - you been shoppin' lately? Oh Man - that top knife is one that made me sit back - Far out! Absolutely STUNNING Bone - an amazing knife - you Sir have some beauties, but that one really stands out to me! The Hawkbill does not deserve to be walked past either-but its hard when you put it up with that India Steel Beauty - the best of the best that one!

S-K, mate... once again.... I just dont know how you and Charles do this, you keep pulling out these wonderful creations, I am sure I am not alone in saying WHOA..... every time you guys show us your wonderful knives - thank you Gentleman -and everyone else in this fantastic Thread.

Great-looking knives fellers

Here's an old Wostenholm with early stainless blades.

The hits just keep on coming. Great show everyone. Love the old bone on your knives Primble. Another great lobster Charles. Nice mop penknife Jack. Here is one of its siblings. Both similar to the knives with Firth blades shown on this 1930s catalogue page. Have a good Sunday everyone.

Thank you for the comments Brad, Gevonovich, Duncan, and S-K.:)

Very nice IXL and Camillus knives shown. :)

I have been away for a few days and now I see lots of new postings of smart old knives. Lovely stuff and thanks for posting the pictures. Here is another MOP knife with FIRTH STAINLESS blades .... this time by IBBERSON. 2 7/8 ins closed. I am not sure how old this is but hope it qualifies as an "old knife".

Nice knife.

I have a slightly off topic question for you guys. I have several old Sheffield knives with MOP covers that have script engraving on them like this one. I have looked at these under magnification and I am always amazed at how clean and crisp the engraving work is. The question is, how did they do it? Same techniques and tools as for metal engraving? Pearl just does not seem like a material that would be happy with this treatment. Remember, I am thinking about this from a 150 years ago perspective.

Any info appreciated.
