That's a Real pretty teardrop JD. the bone is very much like Charlies/GECs Yellow bone. Congrats Bro.

Jack, I think I'm going to need your help on this one, can't find much about it. I'm assuming it's a pre 1890 English pruner, supposedly came out of a vintage English tool chest. The maker is marked HAGUE, maybe T HAGUE and the number 3 on the back.

Really well made and still tight with alligator snap, stag pretty well matched.

Appreciate any input anyone may have.

My apologies Augie, I've only just seen this :o Really nice old knife

Beautiful Robin

How many of you folks have a version of these? All I ever find are the Imperial and Colonials from the 50s-60s, this is my one complete original sets. You used to find these all over for a few $ now they're as hard to find as the premium ones but the're still cool to look at.

A great Old CASE XX Pruner gifted to me by Paul Hilborn - the worn Wooden Handles tell of the great use over the many years that this Old Beauty has had - but enough talking, because there's nothing better looking at neat old knives....

Welcome home old Friend!

Also included in the same box was this magnificent example....
Robeson Shure-edge ( more in the HJ Thread )..

Two stunning knives Duncan, very generous of Paul :) I love the jigging on that Robeson

I have a couple of minty Richards sets Ted

Some years ago, I won a giveaway Vanguard was doing, and he included a stainless German-made knife, which is actually one of these tool knives, though of slightly better quality I think, in as much that it doesn't have shell covers. I quite often come across the Richards knives being sold without the tools. This pattern has a long history, originally made by Wostenholm I think.

Morning Jack, Very nice, I especially like the faux gator case :) . I think Cattaraugus used to make a set like these, I've seen some of the higher end versions at shows but they usually sell in the hundreds for nice examples. Thanks for sharin' Jack :) .

Morning Ted :) Do you think that gator might not be real?! :D I can imagine the higher quality versions going for a high price. The Richards sets were a common Christmas present here when I was a boy, a friend of mine dubbed them, 'The Dad's Disappointment'! :D

Thanks for everyones information on the pruner, not a lot out there but anything helps.

Duncan, Paul sure sent you a couple beauties, both are very nice, congrats.

There's some parts knives that were popping up... at least one very recently. Anyone want to test their skillz? I think this may be a fun one. And since it's mine, I know the owner won't be upset by any criticisms. So the test is.... 1. Is the finish original or has it been resurfaced? 2. Is the knife "right" or is it a parts knife?

Spoiler: It's been buffed. The mark side of the main blade is double stamped--stamped once with the pattern and once with the brand. The WAY that it is stamped (each stamp) is normal. It would appear to be a factory error. The knife appears to be "right" although the buffed finish and double stamp could be misleading, especially since buffing is often a step in the finishing process of a parts knife. I think it's a good example to test oneself.

Nice haul!

Some of the higher end sets were made by Ulery and Napanoch.

A friend of mine calls them "just for her tool sets"... it's a bit chauvinist but he's just teasing.

The Robeson swell-center, equal-end pen is correct for that pattern number and is shown in the early 1900's catalog reprint published by David Clark.

The double stamping on the master is not a problem for me, the pattern number imprint on the mark side is exactly the same as that on the pile side.

The bone is correct.

Cannot express an opinion as to the finish, but the blades are nice and full.

Also that Robeson harness jack is very nice. I assume it's a 622382 pattern knife.

I like the bone on it, too.
